Went out on my friends boat over at port st lucie. Fished the flats from 8 am to about 2 pm. Wind was blowing about 20 mph and made it real difficult to fish. But we managed to put a total of 9 fish in the boat. I hooked up with 2 jacks and 2 catfish while my friend caught 1 jack 1 sheepshead and 3 catfish.

One of the jacks was a decent size but they both went back in the water. I hate cleaning fish and if I'm going to do it the fish has to be worth it. The 2 catfish also were fairly small and not worth keeping.

The only fish currently in the cooler is the 15 inch sheephead.

It was a fun outing even though I didn't catch anything worth keeping.

Glad you had  a good time, Rick.  Sorry the cooler is a little light, but that is fishing.  Sheepshead are good eating.  Have you tried to steam them in chunks with a little crab boil as seasoning?  They taste just like crab.  As a matter of fact, they are what is used as imitation crab, from what I have been told.

OH yea, thanks for the report.

Thanks Pferox! I have actually never tried sheephead. I have heard it tastes great. If it tastes like crab meat then I believe it cause I do love crab.

I thought imitation crab meat was from Alaskan Pollock.

Well tomorrow I am going to fry up 2 more of the mangrove snappers I caught a few weeks ago. Gotta thaw them, cause I had so many fish I had to freeze them. :( not happy about having to freeze the fish so I have to invest in one of them vacuum seal machines. Keeps the fish more fresh when freezing.

That just might well be, since there are more of them around, but that is what I was told by a couple of people on the piers after catching one, so who knows.

Btw, you did bleed that sheepshead, right? They taste a lot sweeter when you cut their gills.

I have no idea what my friend did with it. It was his fish. But I don't think he did bleed it.

Might want to mention it to him for next time.  I have gotten into the habit of bleeding everything except most panfish.  Easier to do em all than try to remember which ones get the knife and which ones don't.

No fish pics cause I am terrified of catfish and their stupid sail fin that has poison and the two jacks swallowed the circle hooks and were all bloody. Also the bigger jack was in the process of being photographed by my friend when a gust of wind hit the boat and I lost my balance, so I threw the fish overboard so I could hold on for dear life lol. What I didn't put that in the report?  ~roflmao

Thanks for the report Rick! I enjoy fishing around that area and have caught huge Redfish there.
