Double Fluke Rig:

I fish a soft jerkbait alot this time of year.  Fish in transition from summer haunts to fall and winter locations fall for the fluke all the time.  Although I have always used a fluke in this presentation, I will definately try this rig cause I have caught several fish after one has spit the fluke out.  I read about this rig in the FLW Outdoors Mag October 07 article by Jason Sealock and decided I would rig it on one of my rods.

First here is a list of the things you will need:

Two small barrell swivels, Two wide-gap hooks, two flukes/jerkbaits. I rigged this on my main line of 15lb Big Game.  Two leaders, one about 3 foot and one 1-1/2 ft long (example, I used 14lb fluorocarbon on the long leader and 10 lb sufix elite on the short leader)

Take the 1-1/2 ft leader and one of the swivels, tie the leader to the swivel and put the main line thru the swivel. Tie one of the wide gap hooks to the other end of the leader. Now slide the leader out of the way for now.

Next take the longer leader and repeat as above, except tie the swivel to the end of the main line.  The short leader is free to slide up and down the main line so there will be alot of play on the short leader.  If you get hung on cover you can break the short leader off and not lose the entire rig, just the short leader, the swivel should still be there.  Work the rig as you would a single fluke.

I was going to post pics but my camera batteries died so I cannot upload them to my pc yet.  As soon as they recharge I will post them.

I also use this rig. Great action.  Looks like a couple baitfish darting away from Mr. Bass.  The other thing I have noticed is that when fish hit this double rig rather than a single, they seem to be more aggressive, maybe just my imagination.  Have never caught to at one time.....yet!!The other thing you can do to make this rig more efficient is to use Strike Kings 3X Zulu or 3X Z Too.  Although I am not a fan of the 3X plastics by Strike King, this is one of those exceptions.

Creel Limit Zero

Yup, been using this rig after I saw a show by KVD on double fluke rig.  He made those flukes dance in the water, and it was amazing when he worked the bait, they looked like baitfish swimming together.

That's a great tip that I WILL be trying. Would love to see some photos  ;PHO) ;PHO)

Would adding a glass bead between the two swivels help, especially to protect the knot on the main line swivel ??

You probably could but I would think that the added weight may affect the action?

I fish this as well with a little different set up. I use a heavy main line (12-14 lb mono) then on a short length of flouro above the hook with a sliding knot. The principle is the same however with sliding knot the trailing fluke can go anywhere. It looks cool coming through the water.

AKA the donkey or donk rig.  Love this presentation in the fall.  Deadly on schoolers.

I've tried a variety of weights to help get it down.  The short answer (from my observations) is it does limit action.  You don't have quite as much of the side-to-side darting as you do when weightless.  I started using the biggest swivels I could find.  Helps w/ the sink a little bit without compromising action.  The best way I've found for getting this rig deeper is to use heavier plastics.  The salt impregnated stuff (like Yamamoto d-shad) sinks faster than other plastics (like the Zoom super fluke).

Lots of very cool vids out there on this.  Google 'donkey rig' then click on the video option.

I used to use this rig a lot offshore for smallies. Never tried it in the shallows or when specifically targeting largemouth but I'll bet it would work pretty well in both situations.
