The stars have aligned. I have some bday gift cards and my 40.00 crank bait rod is having issues. This all leads to new rod. I am open to suggestions. I don't want to go too far over 100.00. I throw mostly square bills. I was thinking maybe veritas winch series as I haven't seen any st croix moderate actions locally. I appreciate suggestions.

I don't want to sound like a homer, but I'd stay away from the Veritas line of rods. I had more issues with them than they were worth. Warranty is great, but It put a bad taste in my mouth. The Verasity line is much better but you're out of your range.

Dobyns just released the Fury line and have a split grip handled 705CB. Its right at the 100-110 dollar mark. My first impressions review should be posted on the home page this week. So far I'm very impressed with it. I've been using it as a dedicated lipless crankbait rod. I haven't used it for anything else yet, but I don't see why a 5 power wouldn't work for squarebills. Sensitivity is very close to my Avid MHM cranking rod and its in the 200 dollar range.

Unfortunatly that is the only cranking rod they make in the Fury line. To jump to the champion it will probably take another bill.

He should talk to Ron at Valley Sports about that Veracity, I picked one up from Ron. It is a not as far out of reach as one might think.  ;)

I would second what Rock said, the veracity is a nice line of rods. And the Dobyns makes some great moving bait rods  ;D

I ended up picking up a St. Croix rage on sale for 79. I don't know much about the Rage line but seems solid for the price.

Wow that is a good deal. I looked at those rods a long while back they are pretty nice and can't beat that price.

Aern't they like $150 and up notmally? Thought I saw a few at Dick's Sporting Goods. Some were more than others, but I think they were all in the $150 range. If so, thats an awesome deal.

I didn't know they made a cranking rod in the Rage series?

Either way they are good rods if you like the grip and the micro guides. Steve Parks (designef of Rage products from Strike King) fishes them exclusively for Jigs. Dude catches some serious chunks too

I don't think it was designed specifically for cranking. It is a 7'2 medium moderate which I think will do the job. It was clearance for 79 at Gandermountain so I figure why not. It is replacing a 30 rod from dicks sporting goods.

Sounds like a good cranking setup to me. Should be an improvement, although I'm not the biggest fan of the grip.
