I posted this on a thread in Dock Talk but thought I would put it here as a tip.  When fishing in vegetation or heavy cover without a peg too many times the weight goes to the bottom but the bait hang near the surface and you aren't really fishing in the bite zone.  By putting a bobber stopper a short distance or up to eighteen inches or so above the weight you can be sure the bait gets down and yet has a chance to slowly fall to the bottom the last few inches which hopefully is the strike zone.

I don't claim credit for this, I saw a friend rig this way and liked it so I stole it from him.

That's a good use for a bobber stop. I will have to try it
I also use one when I'm jigging for Crappie in deeper water. I use it as a depth marker by moving it up and down the line till I find what depth the active fish are at. This way I don't have to guess if I'm at the right depth when I put it back in the water.

Yep been doing that for a couple years now. I don't know anyone who actually uses bobber stoppers on bobbers, then again, I don't know anyone who uses bobbers. Everyone I know just pegs their weights with them. It's a good tip for people who don't know  :-*.

Because they are so cheap they also make great line stoppers.

When you change your reels out on your rod, most of us simply wind the line down on the spool. Then when we go to reline a rod, we have to fight getting the line through the line guide on the reel. If you're like me, eyesight and fumble fingers make this a chore.

Just before you wind your line onto the spool, slip a bobber stopper onto the end of it. Wind the line up until the bobber stopper hits the reels line guide and stop. Now all you have to do is pull the line out when you're ready to reline :-*

That is a great idea, Mike.  I was always tying on beads, but bobber stops sounds much easier.

Thanks for this useful information, I didn't know about this use for bobber stoppers.
