Suddenly I find myself with 2 saltwater spinning reels. They are both Quantum Optix series reels, one in a size 40 and one in a size 60.

I have no idea how to care for a saltwater reel other than the fact that I should rinse the spool after each use so I am looking for any and all the help I can get on caring for the whole reel.

I know that with some spools when you rinse them you have to be careful about not letting water get into the drag but I don't know if that is the case with these spools.

As I said, all advice is welcomed. And thank you in advance.

All right  ~c~ ~c~ That Jim is a nice fellow. I've been posting on here with him off and on for about ten years.

Jim, best way to keep those reels looking new is to spray them down with something like Salt - X or Reel Magic and wipe them down.  Once every few trips or after you get a load of sand or junk on them then Gently rinse them down.

After you rinse them, then take the spool off and let the underside of the drag knob dry out.  Add a little grease on the spool shaft once in a while and you are good to go. Periodically oil the handle knob and you are all set.

Most spinning reels are meant to be sealed against the elements, to a certain extent.  But any kind of pressurized water might seep in and cause issues.

If you should think about it once every year or two break them down, clean out the innards and put some new grease in them.

Now if we can get these two posts into the saltwater section, we would be good to go.

No problem Jim, the nice part was that it was in the right neighborhood, just missed the tenemant house by a couple street numbers.   ~roflmao
