Cabin fever was trying to set in so I grabbed a couple bags of bait, a couple rods, and ran out of the house screaming and cheering to the truck to hit the Bayou.  I ended up fishing from about 10:30 to 2:00pm.

Outside temperatures were in the low 60s, the water was cool to the touch.  It was an outgoing tide, closing in on dead low tide and beginning to start its incoming phase.  The water was moving most of the time I was there, with a noticeable current.

I'm still trying to get that skunk smell off, but it was exciting.  I fished two flavors of my boilies and some frozen shrimp.  The place was slam full of baitfish and I forgot my cast net.  ~b~  There were a good number of birds feeding and then resting in cycles up and down this stretch of Bayou.

I experienced a number of rod bends but no hookups.  That was probably my fault because I was anticipating larger drum to have moved in, and upsized both my rods and hook size.  The boilies seemed to stay on the hook better than the shrimp did this time, don't know if it was because they are harder or just weren't as delectable to the fish feeding, although I did get an equal number of "hits" on those rods.

The barge port construction is coming along, they have dredged out the spot, out to the Bayou proper,  from what I understand after this is completed they are going to dredge the bayou all the way from the bay to the power plant.  Today they had a boat using sonar to map the area in both the port and the Bayou, then add the few barges that traveled up to the power plant, made the bayou kind of busy.

All in all it was a good day, I got to work a few rods that haven't been wet in a while, and got some fresh air, and exercise.  This time of the year it is kind of hit and miss there anyways, I bet that all that construction is having some effect on fish also.

I've been doing a little analyzing and have come up with a theory or two on this.

Since a very large part of the area drains into this Bayou, and we have had rains pretty regular lately, I am pretty sure we are looking at a brackish to fresh situation here.  Especially on the outgoing tide.

Water temperatures have been kind of flipping around, as the fronts have been, probably has the predators not moving this far up from the bay.

Then the dredging for the new barge thing has been running in full swing also, that might have something to do with it.

Who knows, hopefully it will all settle in soon, or not.   ~roflmao
