Hey Guys ,

Was looking for a new all purpose rod for myself. I have been looking for something with bottom contact which those two will perform well. The reason I wanted to get it is that I want to learn how to fish with a jig during the winter time.  Most of the weight that I have are 3/8oz to 5/8oz with few at 1/2 oz

I also wanted to use it my summer rod for chatterbait as well for the lake that i tend to fish at, It has alot of grass, so I would be adding the Revo STX 7.1.1 reel or dawia zillion 7.1.1 on it. I havent decided which should be but I am more going into STX due to drag.

Based on reviews - I would say its safe for 735 C is my rod ? or should I step down and get 704 Model ?

I have a 734 which is awesome for chatterbaits and would be great for swimjigs/swimbaits I would imagine. Also, I use it for my 10 -15 foot cranks.  It is one of the better rods out there and I would bet a lot of loyal dobyns folks will tell you about how great it is.

The only thing in my opinion that is better than the Champ 734c & 735c  for contact baits is a DX744 & DX745 :) I got 3 of those 4
Edit ;
I don't own a 735c .... Yet but after reading Gwambas post below I probably need to try one now lol.

I have a champ 734 and a coalition 735. If you are not going with the 1/2 all too often I think the 734 is great for 3/8 to 1/2 spinner baits(I don't throw chatter baits) swim jigs, t-rigs.... jigs and trailers 1/2 and over is pushing it. My 735 I pitch and cast 3/8 oz flipping weights and plastics all the time too. I just might not use it for chatters/spinner baits and such. Just my 2 cents. Either is an awesome rod and you will probably end up with both  lo

Thanks for your responds - I cant afford to get the DX (Extreme) Model. so I would narrow down to those two in the champion level.  for the Chatterbaits, I do throw 3/8 and 1/2 chatterbaits as well.  That's why it's just hard decision on this since I wanted to make sure that I get the right one. I already own the Champion 704C for lipless cranks that I love throwing.

So far, its two approval for 734 and zero for the 735 ...any more inputs ?

EDIT: Looks like I will make my decision tomorrow afternoon before going to my Alma mater's football game

I have them both...also a DX 744

The 735C has a faster tip IMHO...and more power in the belly... I don't believe it would load enough to cast lures under 1/2oz as well as a 734...Its a heavy jig cast/pitch, C rig , hollow body frog rod for me.

The 734 is my 3/8-3/4 chatterbait, swim bait , spinnerbait, buzz frog and spook rod. The 744 is a dedicated jig/trailer rod for me.

734C is the rod I use for 1/2 chatter baits and swimjigs.   I find that this rod is capable of more than it is not, very versatile rod.

The 734 is going to cast the chatterbait better, good choice.
