Mississippi River La Crosse Goose Island Area Fishing Reports

Lip I hope you catch some fish, but most of all I hope you enjoy meeting all your long distance friends

As we all know the fish are just a second thought just meeting all these folk who eye've been chatting with for a long time on the BB and having fun while fishing is what it's all about  and eye know we will catch some fish too  Oh and one of our friends from up there has set joda and eye   up with a suprise trip on the first night for a night time kitty-kat fishing trip with one of the local kitty-katters

Ok the fishing was a little tuff because of the heat but we did manage to catch some fish in spite of the heat    The first day was spent setting up the campsite and then helping everyone else get set up and there wasn't much fishing going on. We marked the way out to the main channle with markers so the rest of the members could find their way out there and back again. When we got done with that Lary the local catfish man came and we got to know eachother and he said he would be back right befor dark to pick us up. Just befor dark Larry came back by and picked joda and me up and away we went. We saw a couple of Bald Eagles on the way out to the first spot and we also watched the Full Moon come up over the tree tops itwas a beautiful sight. We set out the lines baited with live sunfish for the Flatheads and after awhile the clicker on one of the reels started clicking and we caught one that weighed about 10 lb. They wasn't biteing to good that night but we did catch another small one that weighed about 15lb. It was a great night and we got to know another great guy setting therte in the boat in the dead of night. We got back to camp about 2:00AM and went right to bed so we could get up and go fishing in a few hours. It start of hot and was that way all day long. The fishing was slow but there was a few smallies and some small northerns caught and I tried something new I was fishing a Frog on top of the lilly pads and moss I didn't catch anything but I did have a few Bass blow up at the frog and now I can see why ya'll get such a rush out of fishing this way. I was throwing spinner baits and Buzz Baits but didn't catch anything with them. One of the other members caught a 8lb northeren on a white spinner bait with a yellow and red plastic trailler on it. The next day Sat. we hooked up with another member from Illinois who came on Friday night and I caught a 15" Walleye and several small smallmouth bass on a silver with a red belly shadrap and joda caught some Crappies on a small jig and a white Mr. Twister. Well that night the three of us went back out a dark to go kitty-kat fishing useing some of the goldeneye's that we had brought with us to use for cut bait. We started off slow but we did catch three channle cat's that nigh. I caught the biggest one that would go around10lbs. and I also caught another one around 8lb. joda also caught one that was around 8lbs. We were useing regular fishing gear not the heavy duty stuff you would think for kitty-kat fishing. I was useing 8lb fire line with a 14lb mono leader and myb Walleye Rod and reel. I also caught a BIG soft shell turtle that whould have gone at least 20lb. it took me at least 20 mint.s to get that one in befor I could let it get off  We got back to camp around 2:00AM again and we went right to bed but after a few hours of sleep joda and the other Illinois member went back out but I stayed back at camp to start getting things ready for our departure befor noon. They finaly found the Bass that morning when they ran across a big school of bait fish ( the first school of the trip) and joda took some pictures of the Bass they caught. So all in all it was a great trip and I will be going back again because it was so beautiful up there and now we made a few contacts with a few of the local fishing people up there and next time maybe it won't be so hot.

 It was Fish just being out night fishing for kitty-kats again  and seeing all the critters the Egales and musk rats and coons and kingfishers just to name a few of them. We had a great time and as soon as joda e-mails me the  I will post them.

I live near goose island and it is a great fishery. The bass and walleye are great and the scenery is awesome too. I fish the river about twice a week from boat and often from shore down there. Caught about 20 bass today down there with the biggest being 17 inches. I like this site so far...I think i will have to get a name!

Goose Island is my regular fishing hole...gearing up for spring right now.

yo fish the miss, email me sometime, i've probably seen you down there millions of times....I'm always on my bike, and often in my little white v with 5.5 motor....im waiting for ice out myself. You do any ice fishing in this area?

  it was very funny and I have this feeling that I will be the one picked on this year. I can't say that I don't have it coming!! Say GDN is bringing his boat too so one day you and joda take mine out and I will go with GDN.
