Father's Day report

Knew the Marsh would be too crowded, so I went hunting for new ditches South of the River...had an hour and a half to play.

First location lot of roiling in the water, but the ditch was overrun with carp; second location muddy, poor visibility but lots of structure - caught one small one; third location extremely muddy; cruised by the Old Ferris Wheel from the Chicago Exhibition on the River - river was extremely muddy, and the bayou was worse...we haven't had any rain for a few days, but there's no telling what happened East of us. Time was up and I had to hightail it home.

Nature Observations: in the tall grasses along one ditch I jumped a herd of deer - counted 18 deer...2 of em barked at me before they ran off, saw a great blue heron, numerous goldfinches, a pair of red-winged blackbirds that were screamin' at me...must have been too close to their nesting area, a softshell turtle 14" across its back, a symphony of color adorned the ditches...clover, alium, evening primrose, daylilies and the cardinal flowers won't be long in coming...the clouds were rolling along at a pretty good clip, the wind was out of the East by Northeast.

it's still the difference between getting skunked and having a successful day...perhaps not as successful as you wanted, but no skunk just the same. ~c~

buzz bait...don't set the hook until you feel the weight of the fish...most times you'll pull the bait away because you're reacting to the fish coming out of the water, not hitting the bait.
