6-23-05 Grand Kankakee Marsh report

Man it was definitely hot down there this afternoon, good thing I brought a bottle of frozen water!

The only bait workin' for me today was a 5" Texas-rigged Tiki Flash, weightless worked on the hard edges of the thickest slop I could find.

Only got 4 hits, which resulted in 2-13.5 inchers and 1-14.5 incher.

for as hot as it was today, I have no complaints!

Nature observation: saw a flock of orioles...what a splash of color! Goldfinches, purple martins, one great blue heron, turkey vultures, mud turtles, leopard frogs, soft shelled turtles, and an eel! Saw several places where turtle eggs have been dug up and consumed...my guess is racoons or otters.

I've seen your boat before...when I fished more in LaSalle than the Marsh and areas East of the Marsh.

Thanks for askin' bout my back...it's a day-to-day deal...today it was OK, but 2 days ago I could hardly walk.

Big bite seems to be between 1 and 4 p.m. but I'm sure there's an earlier big bite too.
