My buddy is thinking about picking this boat up. I wish we could but I don't think our Ford escape can tow a 20ft boat

Your Ford Escape only has about a 3500lb towing capacity.  A fully loaded 20ft boat will probably be about this weight.  Your Escape will pull this but anything other than short trips might not be the safest or most comfortable ride.  Most guys will tell you that you need a super duper double supercharged twin diesel with eight axles if your going to tow a bassboat.  Most of the time its overkill but in your situation you wil have to be very cautious.  Short trips, be careful stopping.  It could be a little hard on your car.
