Has anyone tried the Doug Hannon Original Fishing Snake? www.bassprofessor.com I ordered some yesterday and am looking forward to trying them. They are similar to Hannon's Snake Bait made by Burke Lures back in the 80's. I caught one of the largest bass of my life (7lbs 14oz) on Lake Cumberland in 1986 on a Snake Bait fished in a shallow, weedy cove.

Never tried one.

Let us know how they work out for you.

I have used a large ribbon tail berkley power worm in redshad like a snake before.

No weight - just a straight shank or worm hook.  In the old days,  we'd rig them texas style - but down alittle leaving about 1 inch of worm above whacky style.  This way - the worm swims to the left or right and the extra worm at the top looks like a snake with it's head above the water.  Great over weeds going from pocket to pocket.

Definitely tell us how they work, I know a few places that they might catch fish around here.

It ranks right up there with the Helicopter Lure, the Flying Lure and the Banjo Minnow~rant

The plastic is 3x - don't run it across pads; you'll catch every one of them!  ~rant The action is terrible unless you retrieve it really fast.  ~rant
The DVD never shows a fish with the thing hanging out of its mouth or attacking it as it swims (probably because you have to retrieve it so d#*^@ fast.)  ~rant The eye thingy pins are stupid, making rigging these things more difficult - good luck rigging them straight the first time!  ~rant

The Bass Professor really did it this time, lowering his credibility another notch! Maybe he should have stuck with his major - psychology....

Best snakes I ever used were Gator Tail (BPS - 1980's), 10" Snatrix (Bill Norman),  Riverside's 10" Big Wag Worms and Zoom's U Tail, Ole Monster and 8" Dead Ringer.

I wish that I could have read your post before ordering. :'(

If there's anything I hate, it's conning anglers (wives or girlfriends) into buying crap that doesn't live up to the hype. I recently chucked 3 lbs of soft plastics because of the hype I read in various fishing magazines or watched on TV over the years. We don't really have a Consumers' Report for anglers, so this and other sites are the next best thing. (maybe a category to add to UB...?)

Yeah, they really are good at targeting wives (Inexperienced, not the ones on here) girlfriends, kids and new anglers. But hey it's the USA, gotta make money where you can! If I could think of a lure to make good money on I'd probably market it the same way.

Nice site.
They copied Bill Norman's Snatrix (or bought his molds) which are the same as Bog's Super Tail Snakes.

I own the molds for their frogs and like some of his colors - gives me some ideas when pouring my own (thank God considering the price per frog  :P).

DBrooke

Holly crap, i didn't look at the price till you said something!

hi I would like to comment about doug hannons snake I bought some I think back in the 1980s they were made buy a lure company called burke  they had a styrofoam snake head
that you attached to the "snake"      thought they were gimmiky   never had a hit on one
as an aside  to this I am 79 years old and have bass fished since I  was10  spent my whole
life in central fla   having seen many small snakes swimming along  grass lines I never seen
a bass attack one

Chomping on what could be a cootenmouth or water moccasin is not conducive to good health.  lo ;)

Man, this is an old thread!

Bass attack T-rig snake-tail plastics in spring and I've used them as trailers on spinnerbaits (especially
Bill Norman's Snatrix (no longer produced). As many know, I don't believe most lures that are attacked
because bass think they are one species or another, but that the lure's primary action/size/profile and speed teases and provokes a strike. The slithering tail action is good but other designs are better
depending on use.

IMO 3X plastics in the snake design was always a bad idea and are better suited to designs requiring high floatation such a C-rig or drop shot and not fished anywhere near pads which they stick to.

The flying lure worked awesome. I  caught 9 bass out of this drop off with it as a kid within 15 minutes. My friend gave me one to try and it worked.

Yup, I remember throwing those things.  Great action actually, I thought, but again- I had no blow ups.  I read about using a big 16 inch ribbontail worm on a size 5 hook with Mono at 25# test and realling it slowly on top to make a V with the worm (rod at the 12 o'clock position) where there is little to no ine in the water.  Reeling them through the everglades is how some of the guides there catch monster bass.  Evidently, the more rond bodied worms work better through the weeds.  (looking at them from the head-on position).  Might be cheaper than buying gimmick snakes, because if they don't work on top, just put a bullet weight on there and fish thme T rigged.  Just my 2 cents.
You can't catch them on the couch!!
