fished the red from about 8:30 to 2.  Caught 5 mostly small.   Mainly stayed on the main river.  When are the fish supposed to head into the oxbows???  SHEESH.   Spinner and a worm caught them.  I managed to roust an army of mosquitos... it was on the main river near the lock.  Im still trying to find a fish bigger than 3 pounds on the red.... right I know they are there, I just cant find them.

Mr. bigmouth

fish the red today after work from 3:00 until 7:00  launched at teague parkway and went south several miles.Caught 4 bass....two dinks ,one barely a keeper and one nice 2 3/4 lb fish .Caught them on red shad zoom worms.I missed about four or five and had a million bites on the worm which had to be bream..
I was fishing the rock jetties that come out into the main river channel.Had a good time.........saw tons of shad and small fish busting shad every now and then.

Little late on this report.  Went Monday.  Weather was beautiful, but crappy for getting a bite on.  Blue bird post frontal conditions.  Water temp around 80 degrees when i went out of Clark's about 2pm.  Fished North of there on main river.
3 bites, 3 fish, all on black brown amber 3/8 oz jig with green pumpkin zoom superchunk trailer.  2 13"  fish and one 19" fish that only weighed 2# 8oz, skinny as hell.  All three in one little are in about six feet of water.  They were in the grass.  Not the thick wall of grass that comes out from the bank, but the solitary clumps.  Bite was subtle and slow.  Tough day, but better than work.  No results with plastic, spinners or cranks.

Went again today... 1030-12:15  WINDY!!!!!!!!!!!! got a 1.1 on a red shad worm and hit 79.8 on the GPS before i ran out of river.  Yeah i mentioned the speed to get you to ask" how did he run out of river"  Well after I dodge the NEW HYACINTH islands.... and Im SERIOUS they are ISLANDS of the junk. Complete with laydown logs, birds and turtles.  The main river had about a 30x30 section of it.  That is not including all the junk floating down in 1 foot to 10 foot sections.   The cut to caspy .... AND the bow row to caspy entrance was socked in.   Be VERY VERY VERY Careful if you are gonna head to caspy to get out of the wind.  There are some very large tree trunks ( logs dont do them justice)  floating loose and behind the hyacinth.    PLEASE BE CAREFUL, dodge the clumps if you can.  If I hadnt been idling I wouldnt have seen at least 4 seperate beer keg thick trunks that had clumps spread along the length, I would ahve normaly been wide open and gone between the clumps, Thank the Lord I didnt or I would be in a world of hurt.

fished the red again today got 2 3's in short order.  Only fished for about 2 hours. same  deal spinners in 4 feet.  To bad there arent any tournys on the red this time of year.  I could easily bring a 15-18pound bag... I have about 5 hours in 2 days and best 5 would go 19.+

I like the rhino.  Its a bit grippy so it makes launching by myself a bit easier.  I dont have to worry about pulling hte boat back on the trailer I can just walk out. Its not glue but its better than wet clear coat.  I would do the same thing again. I may opt for a different blue though.  I wanted dark blue and it doesnt match the boat as well as It looked on paper.   I am very happy with it though.

BIG PAPA

Thanks I may get with you on who and where soon.

Happy to give a good report for ya'll. Am a little south of Natch, north of Colfax, that's enough, anyway go find shallow water and flip plastics tight and white spinners around movement, all caught where mostly males, good ones, up to 4 lbs. Out of 14 caught, 10 were males. Don't know where the big females are, nesting or getting ready. Bite best during major, slow otherwise. this happened saturday, amongst all the tournament fishing. Be patient and have fun.

Fished the red river  - yday out of Montgomery. Went down the to the oxbow above maurat oxbow. Found em already on the beds and biting. I caught two Med males off the beds and the rest out in front of the shallow bed water in about 3-4' deep. Staging up I guess. Caught em on a black n blue creature.  Didn't see any real big females though. Hopefully there will be some in there next wk

It's that time of year. We're on a new moon cycle right now so there will be some moving but the coming days will really load up.

A lot of good info on this forum and I appreciate everyones reports. I will be fishing the upcoming BASS Open and have never been to the Red. I dont know whether to go up or down from R and R. Im coming to prefish the week of the 8th. Any ideas on a cheap place to spend a few nights. Probably launch from R and R  as well as down near Coushatta. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Heck, if someones wants to ride along and show me around, I will cover all expenses as well as buy dinner.

If you can't get a place at Red River South, check out this link for some good ideas in Bossier City. It's an article about some of the safer places.

I would concentrate efforts south of the host marina. However there are a couple oxbows north that if you can get to them will be good. The problem is getting there.
