I work for the Government, paper will never be dead, as a matter of fact it grows every day.

Good vid BTW.

I still buy books, so I hope not.  A lot of books I buy are Stuff I plan to keep and re-read.  I hate to think that with an electronic blip or power shortage they'd all be gone.  Jim

I think we are slowly heading in that direction.  Im seeing this trend in the work place more and more.  In fact, I do a lot of business with large print companies, they are really hurting.  Had a meeting with one yesterday and he re-iterated how technology is hurting his business.

I am with BID, I love my books in hand, not on a tablet, etc.  I work in academia and asked a textbook rep about it and he said he doesn't see it for awhile.  THere is still high demand.  Plus if you get textbooks in electronic format, they expire after 6 months!  What a rip off!  But yeah, I always worried about software upgrades, etc making older books unusable.  I sometimes play video games, and I have some that I really liked that I can't play anymore because of software updates.  I see it being a problem for books as well.

Didnt get to watch the video, its blocked at work but this was brought up for discussion in one of my college classes. Although E-Readers are becoming more popular, e-books are not. Our guess was that e-readers are often given as gifts but then not many people buy books for them besides whatever store credit was also given as a gift. I personally purchase all my books as hard-copy and never was a fan of e-readers. Bookstores will become few and far with sites like amazon but I don't think books or paper will completely die.

I think after this generation newspapers and magazines will be obsolete. The news is just to accessable via the internet. Schools will always use paper. Although some schools are incorportating ipads and such in to their systems I dont see how it can be beneficial with-in their budgets for every school to have them wth repairs and such.

I work in a courthouse and although a lot is digital, we have hard copies of everything stored.

I'm Johnny Technology. I turned on a computer for the first time when a peanut farmer was president of the US of A. Wrote a word processor in high school. Built more computers for myself then most have owned in their lifetimes. I have a fully wired home where virtually everything is networked and I do almost anything, anywhere. Self-built, by the way, not some turn-key solution.

And you can have my books when you pry them from my cold, dead hands.

For some things e-ink/readers make sense. Newspapers. Magazines. Any consumable content that is generally relevant for a short time period.

But books? The copy of The Sun Also Rises that I bought a decade ago is the copy I'll die with decades (God willing) from now.

The only things that matter in life: Jeeps, guns and fishing.
