Bait caster

I have always and only used spinning reels..but now i really want to start using a bait casting reel....and im not sure what to look for. Which brands are more "beginner" friendly etc:..im looking around the $200.00 to 250 range. I'm out on the lake every weekend so durability is a big issue..i've looked online quite a bit for info but just not sure..any help is really appreciated.

Shimano chronarch. Another option is a bps pro qualifier, much cheaper at 80-100$ but it has duel braking system which is easier for a beginner.gl

BPS Pro Qualifier. Buy two since your spending 200-250 and enjoy. Great reels! Just read the 600+ reviews on BPS' website.

BPS PQ or a Lews SS hands down both reels are very user friendly

If you want smooth, long lasting performance, your better off with a Shimano. If you are willing to fork the $200 for one reel, get the Chronarch, you wont regret it. Best reel for the price. Easy to adjust, and with proper maint it will last way longer in the long run.

Agreed !

Also Shimano's VBS is great for a beginner. Its the set it and forget it braking system ... once dialed in you good to go and not readjusting braking throughout the day due to wind changes.

Thanks all for the information...im going to be heading to BPS this week..at least now im not walkng in there blind...and it looks like i dont have to shell out as much cash as i thought for a good strong reel

In addition to the Shimanos, Bps Pro Qualifiers and Lews reels already mentioned I would also recommend that you check out the Abu Garcia Revos while you are there. For your price range you could look at the SX with magnetic braking or the STX which has higher specs and dual braking like the BPS Pro Qualifier. Over the years I have taught many people to use a baitcaster with the Revos, including my son, and have never had a complaint about the ease of use. Just my .02
