Hey everyone! i just got a new 2012 nitro z6 and ive been hearing that a keel shield/guard is a must have! well i ordered a 7' black keel shield for the boat and it says to start 6 inches above the water line but since ive only had it in the water 2 times there is no water line for me to see so i wanted to see if anyone could give me a measurement of there shield from the bottom of the metal loop to the top of the keel shield or any recommendations for the install would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Congratulations on the new boat!  ~sun

Keel Shield is a great investment and will help protect your hull for years to come.  While the instructions state 6 inches above the water line and that will provide protection in most all aspects of its design, I found by starting it right at the eye used to strap your boat to the trailer provides additional protection while loading the boat, tying up to docks and bumping into stuff that is raised or floats on the water line.

Just double check the length of the strip to make sure it goes far enough back on the boat to still protect the bottom most area of the V on your hull.

Again congratulations on the boat  v~

cool thanks for the quick reply! on the website it said 7' for 17-18' so i hope its long enough!

Fogy is right, I have scratches close to the eye all the way to where the shield starts. If I had it to do over I would buy the .longest one they sale.
I don't mind not knowing all the answers, but I keep forgeting the danged questions.

Here is an article I wrote on how to install the Keelshield. I've had one on every boat I've owned ~c~

Congrats on the New Ride  ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

Good deal, you'll enjoy the peace of mind in having it on there.

Doing it by yourself isn't bad except for the tracing part :surrender:
