Black and yellow swim jig with a watermelon craw trailer?

Some nice fish and a great spot.  You should keep a lid on it.  Wouldn't be too hard for someone to find via google maps.  I know in my area, if the word gets out,  next thing you know,  certain individuals come and keep the bass until they're all gone.

I fish a similar quarry in my area.  funny how the water seems to breed big ones!

nice fishies

what reel are you using

revo/silvermax?

Are there any smallies in that lake?  I would imagine so.  If not you should plant some and they'd thrive in that enviornment.  The one I fish has some really bruiser size smallies too.

nice video! is that an aluminum rowboat converted bassboat you're fishing out of??

I was using a kvd swim jig in texas craw color with a netbait paca chunk in natural craw color. Ive tried all the colors of the kvd sim jig and the texas craw has been the best so far. Also caught some nice ones on bluegill and green pumpkin. The quarry i fish in has a member max of 30 people and is fenced in. I have showed some pictures of my fish at work and now have random guys asking me where i am catching them. One guy said if he fished there it would be hard throwing them back cuz he would want to eat them. In the quarry your suppose to throw all bass back and keep some panfish, but some of the members keep everything. The bass can be hard to catch we learned from getting into the quarry last year that worms and jigs are the way to go to catch the big ones. Ive tried crankbaits and all other fast moving lures and none have caught a fish over 2 lbs. The reel i am using is the silvermax. I bought that this year, i thought i would try using a baitcaster. I used my dads old rod to learn to use it then bought the veritas. I will be buying a nicer reel this fall to match the veritas. I would love to catch smallies in there, but there arnt any in there. Been tempted to go catch some in the river and throw them in there though, summers not over yet ;). The boat is a old rowboat my dad bought for cheap and made it into a bassboat, its a little top heavy but works good for the quarry. Really dont need a big boat for the quarry its not a big lake. Also just tonight i caught the biggest bass ive caught its 1 oz heavier and caught it on top water video coming

It'll probably take a lot of smallmouth to get it stocked right? How would you go about doing that? Unless you get them from a fish farm or something or even call the state wildlife people to stock it.

Here is a 5lb bass from last year. How do they get so dark in color?

Their color a lot of the time depends on water clarity and type of vegetation and cover. Deeper bass tend to sometimes have lighter colors or in slightly stained to dirty water they will get almost white. Take for example, a lot of the largemouth you see come out of Falcon Lake usually have a whiter tint, and Florida waters where the water is usually clear to slight stain they have a darker color.
Water clarity is usually a big factor. Because the more off color water, the less the sun can penetrate through the water, which is why they are light colored. This can change due to current, wind, and rain, and water level fluctuation.

Fenced in and only a few members is great.  Now if you could just convince those keeping the bass - not to keep the BIG ones.  If people only knew how long it takes to grow a big 5-6 lbr and realize they are taking a good spawner out of the gene pool!

Funny you got your latest big one on topwater - I was gonna say you should be throwing some topwater, especially at the end of the video when it was starting to get dark.  I'd be night fishing it!  Or waking up and being on the water 4 am.  Looks like the new strike king topwater dawg in "woops"y shad.  I've got the same one and it's a keeper.  I also like sammys, spooks, sunfish, reps buzz jets.

What kind or bait or forage is there in the lake?  In my quarry - the banks are lined with chunk rock that is loaded with crawfish.  The crappie, yellow perch, and bluegill, all have YOY and I believe there are herring as well.  The smallies move around in packs and bust on the bait pods.  It's awesome. The only way I've been able to catch them is to throw topwater into the fray.

It might not be legal, but it's easy to seed some smallies in there.  Take a cooler live well and catch a few to put in the quarry.  I seeded 13 bass into a pond I fish that had nothing but goldfish and shiners in it.  In 4 years - the pond is loaded with nice bass. I've now taken 12 inchers from here and added them to other lakes that need them.

Really enjoyed the videos and pics.  You're blessed with a great fishing hole to enjoy with your Pop and you need that since I'm sure its locked in snow and ice for a good chunk of the winter!  Enjoy.

the guys that keep the bass usually catch them using really small lures that pan fish. Everytime my dad and i are in there when people come in they pan fish. So if they keep the bass they are pretty small. i know the quarry has crappie, bluegill and rock bass and frogs, suppose to have walleye and northern but never have caught or seen them. i try topwater every night when we get done fishing. the day i caught my biggest one we were messing around to see if we could actually get a northern to bite. My dad was using a spinnerbait and i was using a Heddon® Chug'n Spook that i picked up that day it caught my eye walking in dicks. My dad and i have talked about catching some smallies and putting them in there, i got a thing to put them in, i just need to do it some day. The big bass are picky dunno because the water is so clear but its hard to catch them. We go some days without catching a fish over 2 lbs. Last year we didnt catch alot ,this year we already beat last year. im hoping for a 7lb bass but i doubt there are any in there with so many big bass in there, but you never know. Also the guy that owns the quarry doesnt let you come in untill the fish are done spawning. thanks for the nice comments
