Does the HDS Gen 1 and 2 have seperate software updates?

For example, can I update my Gen 2 with a Gen 1 update?
2020 IBASS Gold - Zone 2 - AOY
2020 IBASS Classic - Winner
2020 IBASS Team Tourney - Winner (with FD)

Yes, they are two seperate updates...you can not swap them up....

I am new to Lowrance.  What do the updates improve on Gen1 units?

Just different things...take a look at this PDF from from Lowrance...it tells you all about the updates since the unit came out....
