What Braid?

After much debate in Gander Mountain, I finally decided to get 50 lb. Sufix 832.... Never fished Sufix or Braid before... I was just wondering what you guys use and what pound test?? Thanks a ton, Jake

Depends on the application.

Flippin/Pitchin 50lb power pro
Froggin/soft plastics/flukes/hard jerkbaits (when shallow) - 30lb power pro

My dad used to use the Suffix 832 and he likes it. Personally I prefer Power Pro in 65lb test when I need some tough braid.

I tried the Suffix 832 but, went back to Power Pro "Slick 8". The Suffix seemed stiffer to me but, I'm sure it's good line.

The Suffix 832 was stiff at first, but a lot of super lines are like that. After a day or so on the water, it's broken in.

I also use a lot of Power Pro. Either one works great.

The 832 does limber up after using it a bit. I liked it alot until I tried the PP Slick 8 (timber brown). For my money, it's the best casting braid i've used. It is super smooth and does not sound like "braid" in the guides.

I've used the 832, power pro, power pro super slick, and now sunline's braid. The new power pro is nice and I'm not one to sing the praises of too many things but sunline has an absolute lock on the braid game in my experience. Nothing else I've tried comes remotely close in any way. They'll all do the job.

I've only used Power Pro 20 and 40 and, to be honest, I'm not confident with braid. My problem is that I don't stick with it. What I need to do is go out with nothing BUT braid a few times...

power pro. I haven't tried the slick stuff, but heard its pretty good. I like it in 30lb for swimjigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, chatterbaits and my lighter flipping applications and then 65lb for my heavy cover frog and flipping rods.

Seems like Power Pro is what most people go with. I too choose Power Pro, I've got 20lb on my baitcaster and Power Pro Slick 8 in 10lb timber brown for light line applications. I have tried some of the other braids and they all seem too stiff to me.

i know not many people will agree, but i use stren sonic braid, and have not had any issues with it at all. it is super thin. their 40lb. test is about a 10lb diameter of less. it is the limpest braid that i have seen and used. if it will stand up the the abuse that comes with lake falcon, it will hold up anywhere. plus, it comes in a florescent clear blue, and i am one that likes to be able to see my line, and we night fish primarily here on table rock. but, i use it all the time during the day, and catch more fish than my buddies using clear or green line of any kind.

I use Zebco Omniflex braid from wally world. Cheap. Handles great. Works awesome.

Sorry, I am not trying to steal your thread Trapperulman.

I have never used braid, but would like to give it a try sometime. May I ask why you are not confident with braid? Is it a personal thing or something?

no disagreement here...I first started fishing braid with the suffix ... haven't seen a need to try anything new since...not PowerPro, not the suffix 832...

what I have in the Suffix works exactly the way I want it to for what I do...

It's a tough question: when someone asks '..which is the best...'? and in reality, there are a LOT of great choices...none of them that aren't 'great'...but when you start talking which is 'better'...the differentials get really small...and become more 'debate-able'...

I use a few different types of braided line. I had always believed Power Pro braid was the only way to go, but to be honest, it doesn't cast as well as some of the other braided lines. It's very strong, has great knots, but casting not so great.

Seaguar Kanzen braid has received two thumbs up from everyone here at the shop. It's been a good seller and been the choice for anglers' punchign setup.

Suffix braid casts very well, but it bleaches out really quickly and can become brittle if you don't mind it.

Spiderwire EZ cast braid is just fine for most applications and is priced more reasonably. The spiderwire, as the name suggests, casts very well.

The new wildcard has been the Daiwa Samurai braid - I just got some and started to play with it, but so far so good. It's so very strong and the knots have held up as of now. I haven't punched with the Samurai Braid, but I've frogged and flipped with it.

Sunline Froggin and Flipping braid is supposed to be the deal, but is quite pricey.
