Does anyone pan fish (Crappie) out of their BassCats? Do any of you do anything different with your livewells?   I'm not going full-time in this direction but crappie fishing or even shell cracker/bream are in my future to change things up.

Aren't Crappie, shell cracker/bream old man's fish? I would have never guessed you for an old man  ~roflmao

Nope. I use them the same way. I do use the insulated buckets with the air pumps.

Mother Nature,

Only thing old on me are my old dirty white sports socks.   ~roflmao >:D  However, I am feeling old after tonights tennis lesson.  I tweaked the back and I'm walking around like the crooked old man with the crooked old cane.   Get me a bobber and fishing pole.  ~roflmao

Gots to spread the love around the house to get family members to fish in my BassCat with me.   Putting more fish in the boat and eating your catch sounds like a good BassCat plan with Crappie, Shell Cracker and some longnecks.   Hmm.... I can smell the hot grease cooking those fillets right now.    ;)     ZZZZZZ, Set the hook.  Wait,  can't do that with a bobber and 4-6lb test line.   ~roflmao

Bama96, you and Classic242 got me thinking about expanding past my fast cat way when I get in a rut and experience those challenging green fish days.  When that happens it's time I start planning fish fry time.   :-*   Also, when I get a freezer full I'll have a plate of filleted Crappie, fries and hushpuppies waiting for Mother Nature sans the old dirty white socks..   >:D  MN, What's your favorite beer?  Also, those BassCat coolers will keep dem'longknecks good and cold for ya too.   ~beer~ .    Cheers!  Now that is BassCat Strong!   ~c~

Fly get a Yeti Cooler and a Cajun Fryer and you will be all set. I know all about frying fish and drinking beer. Trust me I am a Pro. ~beer~

I hope your back feels better soon Tom, I hate to hear that anyone is injured.

Them old men know how to eat good... ;D

There's no place like home on Ultimate Bass.  You gotta like the website and the people who make it happen.  I'll buy the first round of fu fu's for everyone.  Bama96, since your freezer is already full bring your best crispy slabs with you.   ;PEP) ~beer~ ~fff

Mother Nature,  glad your poking around.  I really enjoy it when people add color to the canvas.  We appreciate you checking in on us.   Tight Lines and anytime.

And I love having ya'll here... We have been sponsored by one boat for so long that I think that all of the other boats have shied away from our forum. I would like nothing more than to see ya'll thrive here! I love to talk with down home good folks so if you can tolerate me...  ~shade I might keep poking my head in from time to time  ;D

I catch my fair share of crappie my fellow UB friends. The way I look at it, if you are going to crappie fish you might as well have one of the best boats out there to fish out of. I call my Classic my crappie cadillac. I have had the livewells on both sides full to the maxx when there are three of us fishing out of my boat and have not had a fish die as of yet. My Classis gets me there and back in no time at all. I'm also glad to see admin. stop in and pick a little also. It's great to be a UB member !!

Bama96, I took the bait and could not resist.
I use a insulated bucket with a air pump and Better Bait minnow formula to add to the water.
I keep it simple around here where I live my tactics are as follows:

I use an 7' ultra light with a spinning reel for throwing jigs.
I use a 7' medium action rod and spinning reel for drop shoting the ledges.
I use a 7' medium action with a spinning reel for trolling 200 and 300 series Bandit crankbaits.
And last but not least is my trusty old B&M fiberglass pole with Uncle Bucks reel and a float, weight and hook.
I refuse to do the spider rig thingy but, it is a very effective technique.
One of the aforementioned techniques above works for me every time, you just have to find them and present them what they want on any given day. Crappie can be very color picky with jigs, just like bass. They want one color in the morning and another in the afternoon. I use minnows more than anything else though because you have to give them what they eat to catch numbers (limit).
Sorry for rambling !!

Classic,

That is what I'm talking about.   What a great post and follow up.  I knew you would eventually respond.  Learned lots about your setup thanks for sharing!  When I get the crappie mojo going there's going to be another crappie caddy roaming Lake Martin and Smith lake waters from the fly man.   :)

Now filling both livwells with crappie?  Wow!   :shocking:  Now that is BassCat strong!

H2O_Fowl

Crappie fish all the time out of my Cat.  Matter of fact do that more than bass fish nowadays.  Those crappie really like the Cats livewells.  Do nothing different.  A fish is a fish is a fish.  They all need water and oxygen to survive.

Flyswatter

H20,  oh, but a big difference.  Them crappie sure do taste the best!!!   ~fff ~gf

H2O_Fowl

Very true!  They are tasty little critters!
