There wasn't much of a turn-out for this tournament, only six of us were brave enough to face the heat. Like so many other tournaments if you wanted to weigh in fish you had better catch them early. My partner and I hit the main lake grass and pads first and I caught two on an in-line spinner (chart. & white) and my partner caught one on a 1 minus (chart. & blue back). Just before noon we went to deeper water and I got one on a 7" blue fleck worm carolina-rigging. We saw a lot of schooling activity and thought they were hybrids but as it turned out they were largemouth. They were schooling all over the main lake in 20 to 25 ft water. A lot of boats were trying to catch them but no one was having any luck. These were big fish! We talked to a couple of guys who said they had caught about eight of them and they turned us on to the secret and my partner caught three in the next hour or so. I didn't fare so well. As it turned out my partner and I took first place with his four just over 11lbs and my three just over 8lbs.
Second place had 5 fish just over 12 or 13lbs. and third had one fish. My partner took first place individual and I got second place. Second place team caught theirs on watermelon craws in the shallow grass and trees. It was fun but we all fried!

I love schooling bass, but they sure can be frustrating on tournament day. You said you found a secret, can you share it? It might work over here also. I understand if you have other plans but after the schooling season is over I sure would like to hear about it. ;D
