You're probably a little low with your engine.  3-3.5 in below pad is where most tr 185-86's run.  The 23" Tempest is the correct prop.  Look for 54-5500 rpm and don't let your h2o pressure drop below 12psi.  You should see about 59-60 with a killer holeshot.

BK...you're going to blow the darn thing up.  Stop screwing around with it. 56 MPH for a 150 with gear and 3/4 tank plus livewells is right where you need to be.  You start raising the engine and sucking air, you'll be hating life. JMHO.

Remember I've owned a tr 21 with 80+ happening.  Trust me on this.  Live long and prosper ;D

Update,
So far I have not adjusted the jack plate at all, as I first want to install a water pressure gauge. I have just bought the gauge but have yet to get it installed.

In my last weekend tournament I knew I was not going to run very far from the ramp so I only had a little over a 1/4 tank of gas. There was little to no wind or current and the water was flat calm. I was by myself with the livewell empty, but I had A LOT of fishing gear in the boat.

Playing with the trim I was able to hit 58mph but the revs were still only at 5,200rpm. That's 2 mph higher than previously with no real changes to the boat.

BK pull your prop & make sure your hub is in good shape. No cracks or spots that look like it spun. Could be the little things. Just a thought.

I have the same boat that i just purchased recently. It has a 150 xr6 on it, but from all the research I did and read. 99 percent of the people with this boat with a 150 run a 23p tempest. That is what I have on mine and it speedo's at 62 and gps's at 64. 2 guys int the boat full tank of gas and fishing gear. It has jack plate and dual hydraulic steering. I start to get a slight bit of chine walk when I get over 60. But it isnt anything crazy and hardly noticeable. Low to mid 60's are what guys are getting out of these from everywhere I have read.

I'm sorry mine is a tr-186 limited edition , but basically the same exact boat I think.

I will check this weekend if i get a chance. It is supposed to be nasty weather heading our way though. But I will check and write it down next time I go.

IF YOU GO TO BBC BOARDS THEY HAVE A SECTION THAT HAS OWNERS SETUPS AND WHAT THEY ARE GETTING.

HERE IS A COUPLE. IF YOU LOOK THROUGH THEM YOU WILL SEE JACK PLATE AND 23 PITCH WORKS BEST. HOPE THIS HELPS. LOOKS LIKE RAISING THE MOTOR IS ALSO A BIG DEAL. AND FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND IT DETERMINES WHERE YOU ARE IN ALTITUDE ON HOW WELL YOUR BOAT WILL RUN ALSO. LUCKILY MINE WAS ALREADY ALL SETUP WITH THE JACK PLATE, PROP, HOTFOOT AND HYDRAULIC STEERING SO I HAVENT PERSONALLY HAD TO ADJUST ANY OF THIS STUFF. BUT LOOKED ALOT OF IT UP BEFORE BUYING SO I KNEW WHAT TO LOOK FOR UNTILL I FOUND ONE THAT ALREADY HAD ALL THE STUFF OR ALMOST ALL THE STUFF TO RUN AT WHAT THEY SAY THESE BOATS WILL RUN AT. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU COME UP WITH.
