Well this is my second attempt on my version of the "Bama Rig". The first one turned out ok but the head I molded out of resin was a bit larger than this one. But did test it out during the Reeves Boat Show Tournament. Only threw it for a bit because I was catching fish on a senko. Bait did track well in the water with five swimbaits on 1/4 oz. jig heads. Made this rig with a smaller head along with the "woops"y shad skirt that I also had on the first version. I used .032 music wire and crimped them with eagle claw sz.6 leader connectors. I added a spinnerbait blade with a red glass bead on the longer wire for added attraction. Can't wait to see how this thing looks in the water. Will test it out this weekend and report back on here.

Looks nice. I'm sure with that blade attached it'll attract alot of big ones ;PEP)

Awsome job bud. What type of line do you use with your Bama Rig?

bassincali

realy nice job mine look horriable how do you cast the head?

Thanks for all the compliments but will mean a whole lot more to me if I can catch some fish on it. As we all know its about self gratification when you catch something on a homemade bait. To "FisherofMen" i have orders from co-workers already and I screwed up the two piece plaster mold when I pulled it apart from pouring the resin. Guess I didn't have it waxed up good enough, I even sprayed mold release into it and let it dry. I think I the next mold I make I'll wax it plus rub the inside with vaseline. Was in BPS today and the Mann bait co. alabama rig is going for $25.00 I probably have close to $8.00 tide up in making my own. Just a time consuming process to make them until I can get a few more molds made up. To "ffnbutta": I was using 30# power pro line on a med.hvy. spinning rod just to test it. But am going to upgrade 50 or 65 # braid. When casting I just kinda lobbed it, the weight of the jig heads will carry it a "mile". Also right before it hits the water I pull back just a bit so it doesn't tangle. To "bassincali": write to me @ and can give u my #. Way to much to type on here. LOL Thanks again guys for the compliments and will keep posting on results of this crazy bait. I added the yellow "woops"y shad stripe (after the pics were taken) down the side of the head and added some holographic dust to some Envirotex Lite resin for a really nice clearcoat finish.

Nicely Done!!! Keep us posted on your success with it.

Thanks for the tip on what line and pole to use. It's going to be a huge help. Thank you

Thanks Bigbassman, coming from you thats a real compliment. Making my first attempt at redoing a S.K. Redeye Shad in a green sunfish color, its on the "drying" rack right now spinning to dry the clearcoat you told me about. I think it turned out pretty good. Will put pics on here as soon as its ready to fish. Thanks for all you help and info. Doug.

Looks great. My only question is what happens when a bass hits the skirted head? Just looks to me like having the skirt there might attract a fish to hit the biggest target.
Nothing makes a fish bigger than ALMOST being caught.

Yak-aholic...I actually saw the skirt design from some other a-rigs' but from what I've read and seen on the flw tournament on Guntersville that most fish like other creatures in the wild will prey instictively on the slowest and weakest in a herd or school and I mainly will be using the rig with a jig/swimbait combination and the swimbait will be larger and have more action than the skirt itself but if I do experience hits on the rig without catching I will remove the skirt to see if that changes things. I had a twin pack of the "woops"y shad skirts in my array of tackle anyway and thought why not  give it a try. Most think it looks great but as I mentioned earlier I still have to see if it'll catch fish. Will keep everyone updated. Anxious for the weather to warm back up and give it a few more tries. It's not a rig I want to throw all day but might have to give it a try when they are killin' that soft bodied jerkbait or senko.

I hope my comment wasn't taken as dislike of your rig in any way. I think it looks awesome and hope you catch many fish on it. I was just asking about having the skirt there.

Glad I could help!! Can't wait to see the pics of your baits!!

I throw mine on 100 # braid with 25 pound snaps I get them all back now.   After losing almost 20 of them. I like just losing one bait now instead of the whole rig.  I throw them in the bad stuff around alot of wood.  Banging them into brush piles will get the rod jerked out of your hand.

Yah-aholic, no dislike taken at all my friend. I try and answer all questions and ask plenty my self. LOL. I like sharing information to help anyone make their own baits and this forum is one of the best on the net' that I've seen and everyone seems to very helpful to share info on here except maybe those prized honey holes out there on the lakes. Good fishing to you and I always like feedback whether its good or bad. Input sometimes just makes us better.
