Switching out trebles

Actually, this is not entirely true. Some hooks with those long slender points will roll the point too easily, so you cannot depend that it's a better quality hook. Too slender and it can be a problem.

That's true if the hook is not harden   If not harden and it has a long slender point it will bend real easy

Thats why i like Owner and Gam   VMC are ok    But i don't think there  as sharp as Owner & Gam  the Owner's are the Sharpest !

I change out the trebles on all my Strike King cranks and traps with Gammies. I've never had to change Lucky Craft or Rapalas if they have VMCs. Its worth the investment to change em out if they are cheap. You can buy a 10-12 pack of Gammy round bend trebles for $7.00 and that's not bad when you break it down and also figure that your going to loose less fish. To me that's the most important thing because even when I'm fishing for fun I want to catch as many as possible. Also, you never know when the fish of lifetime is going to bite and you would be brokenhearted if it was from a cheap dull hook.

Dan, I prefer Owner hooks as well, but also use Gammies & VMC. Have some Daiichi & Mustad Triple Grips too. All have worked fine for me. When I can, I'll buy the Owners as my first choice, if I can get them at a good price, and don't mind stocking up.

Those trebles I had a problem with were likely not hardened like some of the better quality hooks, so I can certainly agree with you. Trouble is, with factory hooks, it's often difficult to tell, until there's a problem. Those hooks had a black nickel finish, which is used on many of the better trebles, so looks can be deceiving sometimes. When in doubt, I'll change trebles to something I know is better!

I like the way owner packages there hooks   they don't  get banged  up hitting other hooks  Wish Gam packaged the same way

So, I have a hand full of H2o Express and a few SK Red Eye lipless cranks. Along with some Mann's Baby 1-minus and Wakers should I get #4 or #6 size hooks?

You will need both #4 & #6    On the smaller lures use 6-F 6-R  on medium size lures like the red eye use a #4-F & #6-R  on Medium large use 4-F 4-R  Larger lures  #2-F & #4-R

On the Baby1- you really need to put a short shank hook on the front. The hook that comes on it or if you replace it with one the same size, will tangle with the rear hook.
