I have been looking at taking a trip to Lake Amistad and the stars have finally aligned so I can go but I'm not sure what I need to do to prepare for the trip. I am looking to stay at the Anglers Lodge in Del Rio...sounds like a good place to stay. have any of you guys stayed there? Also how much of a pain is it to get a Mexican fishing license and do I need one? I think from the map about half the lake is on each side of the border so do I even really need one? Where is the closest ramp to the Anglers Lodge? And finally I will be down there the about the 20th of April so what will the patterns be? Will there still be some bass on the beds?
Thanks for the Help

I have been to Amistad...several years ago in March.

I stayed at a crusty motel....not sure of name. The spawn will be over in April. THis will be a good time to throw big swimbaits to post spawn fish hanging around trees next to deep water. If you can drop shot, you should be able to catch all the numbers you want, but the big fish are much harder to catch. We caught 60-100 bass a day.

Have fun!

You speould be catching the last wave of spawners or depending on the winter they could be done. There will still be fish guarding fry and the Early Spawners will be recovered and schooling in the Grass.  In a Normal year there will be 3-4 waves of Spawners Starting in Late February-Early march and running through mid april.  If you want to find bedders you need to Look south toward the damn as everything norht will be over with.

Like wats said, Swimbaits are a killer choice that time of year!  ~gf As will the Lateral pech and Jigs.
If we have a Warmer winter look for the Shallow Grass for a Early frog bite.

As far as Room, I know quite a few folks that stay at Byron Velvicks place and they say it is the best for the money on the lake.
