Getting ready to install my Christmas present and I have a couple questions for those who have upgraded already.

Is it better to install the transducer on the step or the transom itself? I do not have a jack plate.  The manual says it is OK to mount on the step but it's a little ambiguous if that is an ideal location.

What have you guys done with the existing holes from the old transducer?  My thoughts are either have a buddy weld the holes shut or I can open the holes up a little bit and buck aircraft rivets in them.  Any problem with warranty with these two ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Wayne is a good resource as is Doug Vahrenberg.  Both have helped me with my units a lot.
