just wanted to know which shaft for the gas motor is best Long or Short. this would be a tiller motor, and I'm looking to get  a 25 or 35hp for it, . also do i have to use a 52"-54" shaft on the electric motor or can i go smaller in size like a 48"?the boat came with a 40lb MK TM, i want ot upgrade to a 80lb TM. i attached two pic to see the boat. i picked it up in may and I'm going to redo it over the winter and i going to try to  buy these motors before spring. thanks...

Most guys I know that have tiller outboards (to include myself) usually go with a short shaft outboard.
As far has the trolling motor goes I would say that 52 - 54 inch should be fine.  I like the idea of the 80lb thrust trolling motor.  I have one on my Stratos and it moves it around with no problems.  One of these days I'm going to "Upgrade" the 12 volt 41lb Motor Guide I have on my G3 to a 24 volt system.

Yah, short shaft for that setup. Long shafts are usually for sailboats and rigs with taller transoms than yours. The good news about the troller is that they can be adjusted to fit while under power. The one thing you do need to be aware of is how it will stow on deck. Too long can be a nuisance.
