Now with only 3 + the ARB , that means that you will have 2 spool bearings and it's a guess where the other 1 will be.  I would guess the DS or PG .

I don't like Bushings anywhere, They will not last as long as a bearing no matter how much you lube them and they do give more resistance.

I wasn't going to post in on this until I had a little better info. I have read every post on TT forum and several other sites as well. I have read stats on the shimano site for myself. I have not been able to locate any schematics for the new reels yet. It did certainly look to me that the new Chronarch is the same reel that we can currently buy as a Curado E reel. It looked like they made some very minor upgrades to the Curado E and added some extra gear ratios, painted it silver and called it a Chronarch. I was thinking that if that was true, it was a sad thing to do. The Chronarch design was a superior reel and to simply reintroduce a Curado with a different handle and call it a Chronarch would not be cool especially if they charged more for it than the curado was. I now have verification that this is exactly what they did. Some of you may know Dan Thorburn, aka Bantam 1. He is a shimano rep that mods several support forums. Here is a question and answer that he responded to

Yes they are built on the same tooling. The major difference is the double anodized spool and handle. We also added some different gear ratio options and added the larger PV grips to the 50 size.

Thanks Pro Reel, I'd love to get Dan to visit here :-* he's just shimano though, you're a speciallist for all reels ~c~

There you have it, 20 dollars more and you get and anodized spool and handle, oh and you get the PV grips ~c~

Well, anyone in the Shimano arena knows the Chronarch was a fantastic reel but the price was not worth the upgrade from a curado so they basically canceled the line ~b~

I haven't bought a Chronarch in years myself, simply because I was going to shoot for th Core if I was going to upgrade. He didn't really say in that response as to what gears they have in it? I would assume by the way he worded it that they are the same as the Curado E?

Still gonna play with one of the Curado G's just for curiosity sake :-*

This is exactly what I knew from some guys that were at icast.  I was hoping that maybe they would maybe upgrade the drag, but sadly they are not.

I thought you were talking about the curado, saying your buddies had played with it?

As far as I can tell, and from reading between the lines, the reel that is now called a chronarch is in fact the Curado E with silver paint, anodized spool, handle and better grips on the 50. It comes in several ratios and thats a plus. It costs $20 more than the E did at full price. Thats understandable because there will be inflation. The name irritates me. If they wanted to drop the chronarch, then drop it. make up a new name or something. They could have still called this reel the curado and most fans would be very happy. Does this mean they are trying to trick people into buying this reel with the chronarch name? I don't understand marketing but they must have had a reason. The reel that will now be called the Curado, looks to be a cross between a souped up canean and a souped up Citica. It looks like we basically lost the reel that was the Citica? I think that when the dust settles, shimano fans will find that several of these reels will more than fit their needs and wants, but you need to ignore the names and go by the features.

Mike, Dan mods a shimano / power pro support forum on several sites. He does so by invitation. They don't pay for the section or the advertising that it brings them. The forums that have a section for him believe that the benefit to shimano lovers is worth it. Dan has probably forgoten more about shimano reels than I will ever know. I would welcome him here just as I have on other sites and badger him with questions. ~roflmao

Well I'm no expert on reels by any means so I appreciate all the info on the Shimanos since I'll be looking to add a couple of new reels either this fall or early next year.  It will be interesting to see what everyone thinks once they get their hands on them.

As for the rods, I applaud what Shimano has done as it looks like they've upgraded both the Compre and Crucial lines while keeping the same price points.

On another note, did anyone notice the new Daiwa T3 Ballistic reel?  It has what the call a T-wing casting system.  Any thoughts on it?

I got so wrapped up in Shimano I didn't look at much else. I did see a couple cool looking finishes on some ardent stuff. Of to look for the t-wing?

Very cool idea, the concept is sound just like micro guide rods. The micro guide guys and gals should be all over this  :-*

Once again daiwa leads in innovation ~c~ will it really work ? I don't know but it makes sense  :-*

as a matter of fact they did. i dont have all the details on everything yet. We was suppose to introduce around 100 new SKU's. I know alot of the talk is about the new Tournament MG Reel. retails at $129 and they added a deeper spool thats holds 150 yards of 12 lb. and all gear ratios have the 95MM cranking handle. (Finally) and 9+1 BB
and supposedly a new tournament SL rod with micro guides and skeletal reel seat ;)

I think the economy had a lot to do with it. Consumers are slowing down on dropping $30 a bait and manufacturers are seeing it. I think ICAST kinda proves it. Most companies made subtle changes just to have something new some even went less expensive.

ex301p, be sure to keep an eye on the Dobyns line ;) Gary loves cork handles and doesn't like split grips or micros so he'll always have something for you  :-*

I have been waiting for Ardent to make a lefty BC for a bit now so I'm excited about that.  ~c~ ~c~ ~c~ Mike hit it on the head If you can't find a rod that fits you or your budget from Dobyn's rods you aren't lookin hard enough!
