They all have a Huge abuility to read Sonar But the 2 instances I can think of would not have been found cruising unless it was pure luck.  Like I said he is a Great angler, NO argument at all there, you don't finish 2nd as many times as he has without being a great angler, but you also don't find what he found, where he found it in a 3 day practice without help.
The other angler that was sharing the spot will tell you strate up his waypoint came from a team packet.

They all do it, watch them practice and it is obvious when the bite is offshore.
They would be Fools not to use every tool that is available to them.  When you are talking about disecting structure on a Lake with more surface acres than TBend in 3 days, your not going to find the sweetspot consistently without numbers. can't be done.  New Electronics and improved Charting can put you an all the comunity stuff, but not the uncharted junk piles, rockpiles, brush piles.

I never said he was a Liar. He just isn't telling the whole truth.

I personally do not like the voting option. It turned the event into a popularity contest. If it is truley " All Stars" then take the top 12 and be done with it.  Not sure why they even have this event with the Open, ICast, etc. bouncing around similar dates. I applaud the organizers for trying something, but this is not my favorite.

I agree 100% Jay.

As far as Martens  ::) ::) when I'm out of the room and he is on TV I have to come in to check and make sure Danielle didn't change the channle to the view or some other chick show,,,, man that guy sure knows how to whine.  When I'm in the room and he comes on tv,,, I change it to the view,,,, figure if I'm going to listen to some chick fuss I might as well get to look at Elisabeth Hasslebeck  lo

OCBassman

Kreit and Ike are the only 2 I voted for. I was hopeing Walker and Ish made it in.

Shawn - I can't say that I know everything that Aaron Martens does - but, I do know a lot of it.  I can tell you that he does not call local anglers or tackle shops.  Does not go looking for information from locals in any way shape or form.  He does talk with other anglers on the tour and get some information as they all do.  However, I can assure you he get's a whole lot less information than 90% or more of the other anglers.

How he finds a sweet spot like that is from FISHING FISHING and FISHING.  The guy fishes non-stop spends many many days on a lake before the off limits period and then spends sun-up to past sun-down during the practice period.  His pre-fish and most of our pre-fish are two different things.   He reads his electronics like nobody I have ever seen before and I have been on the boat with a good portion of the top 100 anglers in the world.  I spent last Wed night on his boat doing some filming and he spent quite a bit of time showing me his electronics and how he uses them.

I think where you are misguided is that you think he found anything during the 3 day practice period.  Keep in mind he could have spent a month straight on that lake in December or January or February - and found that spot, marked it and then returned to it during his 3 day pre-fish.   Most of them already know what they need to check well before the pre-fishing even starts because they are pro's and they put their time on the water months before the event!

I can't tell you what to believe - but this is what I believe and I have spent quite a bit of time with Aaron.

Tom, I very well could be wrong. It just looks funny to me that 2 elite pros show up to the same spot and 1 of them admits to the spot being team info and the other doesn't.

The spot Is definately in a spot that you wouldn't be looking for it.

Like I said before, I respect him as an angler and I am sure he doesn't seek out local info and docktalk, however team info is much more reliable and doesn't have to be asked for.

Tom,
I've followed you a bit...started when you were over at Bass West...so never having actually met you, I've at least read everything I could that you've written (BassWest was simply the best during the time you were there... ~c~) ... and I imagine you have some insight into some of the 'west coast' anglers to a degree that many do not...

now, what I really want to know:  from your time with aaron and the filming you did...will there be a time when a 'finished' product will be available to be seen?  I believe I would look forward to that...

Fogy, I believe that Aaron could use some time with a marketing/image professional...break down some tape...dude is an excellent angler...and at the same time, his free sharing of info also includes his 'at the moment' thoughts.   We might agree that it doesn't always come across 'the best'...

still I'm guessing he'd still be a great opportunity to visit with one on one, spend boat time with...and really get to know.

the little I've seen him talk about his family...guy strikes me as an immensely solid individual who isn't 'coy' about sharing his info.  I see Aaron as an 'angler savant'...the stuff just makes sense to him like no others...

who else talks about the 'smell of shad'?

I agree as he is obviously a very strong angler but IMHO he would have a much better following if every time he spoke it didn't come off like he was in need of a box of Kleenex and a good cry.

Well it doesn't matter who likes who I guess the Popular Vote is in and

Martins
Ike
Kriet
and who's the other guy.... oh yeah the Classic Champion Skeet

are the most popular of those that didn't make the top 8.

So who's up for having BASS let us vote on how the AOY or All Star should be done next year :-*

as opposed to letting them earn their way in?  why not?

>:D

Mike Cork

I am 1000% for earning it...

Just don't figure they'll go that route  :-\

This " letting fans vote thing is actually genius for Ratings. Now you have the four anglers with the biggest fan following  fishing and bumping up veiwership.  :-*

and probably a few extra viewers watching hoping for them to fail...  it's the old Dallas Cowboy theory:  love 'em or hate 'em, you watch 'em.

BASS is not quite the same...even if I didn't have a 'strong rooting interest' in any of participating anglers, I'd watch it because key for me is how they figure the stuff out...

I'm still not buying into the NASCAR/NBA 'market the individual' approach...  still is man against fish...and it always will be at it's core.

in my opinion.    >:D
