I just wanted to post a recent experience I had with my recently (within the last year) purchased laptop.  About a week and a half ago I noticed the USB mouse and my MP3 device that was connected intermittently working.  I started researching but within a day or so it was toast.  The laptop would not recognize USB devices on any port.  I tried un-installing the drivers and controllers and reloading.  Contacted Toshiba and found i was still under warranty until May!  So we went through some troubleshooting on the phone (very exasperating) so after doing all the things i had already done with the tech on the phone they determined it was a software issue.  I told them i would t/s that and rule it out, installed fresh win7, same problem...then took it a step further and installed a couple different flavors of linux and the same problem was present.  Contacted the tech back and let him know what was going on, they offered to send me a default restore disc to bring my laptop back to original software config, but we discussed and determined I would be sending my laptop in!..lol. They shipped me an empty carton and i shipped it off.  About a week later it came back in working order after they swapped the system board.  Happy with the turn-around once i finally got it out the door.  Turns out my tech was in the Philippines and not too far from where my wife is from...gotta look that one up when we head over for a visit...lol
