I've heard a lot about the opportunities that exist fishing for bass at night in the heat of the summer. Does anybody target bass at night and have any tips or good baits to use?  Do you use a lantern, or what do you use for light?  I primarily fish a small, deep, pond in a canoe, and probably wouldn't want to venture out in this brush filled, deep pond at night.  I do have a couple of other options that I do want to try at night, however, and would appreciate any tips that a more experienced night angler could give.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

I didn't see another night time fishing thread?

An excellent night time bait is a black jitterbug.  You can hear it in the dark and the bass really explode on it.

Fishing bait casters can be tricky at night because you don't see your lure land so you can thumb the spool and you can get over runs.

Also - don't set the hook on a splash - wait until you feel the fish tugging.  I set the hook a few years ago on the sound of a splash and my lure came right at my face.  I blocked with my left arm and sank both trebles in beyond the bend and barb.

the most important piece of equipment for night fishing is insect repellant!!!!

I fish Lake Fork at night a lot during the summer months. You want to throw big baits in dark colors. 10" and 12" black worms produce solid fish. Black/Blue Jigs drug along the bottom work great as do black spinner baits and buzzbaits. throwing around boat docks and boat houses where there are lights will get you bit quick. Just go slow and be safe. If you aren't familiar with the lake, dont try and run it at night.

Zipster it sounds like we have similar styles when it come's to night fishing. I use big worms as my main bait at night. I start with 16" or 18" but don't use smaller than 10". I even use 10" on my drop shot at night . All the lures you have listed are what I have tied on for tommorrow's night tournament at Lake Casitas.. ;D    ..Bob Tull

Do ya'll like rattles on the jigs or do you like them silent?  I was supposed to go night fishing last night, but work held my buddy up too long to go.  I have heard that black crankbaits work well too.  There are also some black lights that you can get that allows you to see your line in the water and around the boat that don't hurt your fish catching chances. But I don't know, that is just what I am told.  I haven't seen anyone talk about a tube.  Those good at night?

Many tournament's I fish are at night. The black light's have been a big help to my night fishing. Not all anglers agree on this....Many times the bait fish have moved up towards the black light's I use and I've been able to catch bass right at the boat.I have 5 black light's on my night tourney boat.4 Light's are mounted and one can be moved around. If you use florescent blue line it will glow under the light's.Even small diameter line's look like rope.I will usually use bigger bait's in dark colors at night. They give off more vibrations and help the fish hone in on it.I sometimes use rattles but most of the time just bulky trailers on my jig's. ~shade...Bob Tull
