Just wanted to know what all of NY anglers are doing to get ready for the new season. maybe trying a new technique or new lure. or maybe what your looking forward to this fishing season.

as for myself, I'm going to simplify things. since i haven't beenable to buy another boat since i sold mine a few yrs ago. i decided to shorten my tackle bag and fish simple(since I'm a non-boater).by doing this I'll take the guess work out of it. i won't have a milllion baits going through my mind when I'm not getting bit. i pack my strengths and keep color choices to a few. plus by doing this I'll have less weight in my bag and less thing to bring on the boat.

Going to try to go with what I have confidence in, mainly some senkos, shallow crankbaits, keitech's, and weighted plastics.  Will throw the jig at times as well.

I will also try to throw more topwaters at least early in the day.  i kind of got away from topwaters the last year or 2, don't know why.

I admire you being able to come up with a smaller tackle bag.  I do have a boat and seem to carry enough stuff to supply several people for an entire year on board.  :shocking:

My problem is when fishing with a friend out of his boat trying to simplify my tackle down into one bag.  What I found is a soft sided bag using Plano 3700 boxes.  If I have some idea of where we are going fishing I can load the boxes with the most needed baits, plastics, and terminal tackle for the day on the water.  This has worked for me for the past several years and I now have a fairly good idea on how to do it.  The catch has been this bag weighs in at 40+ lbs and I need to learn how to lighten the load even more.  :-\

Please feel free to offer suggestions on how you are doing and share them with us.  ;D

baron i know what you mean, my buddy(Ollie) who i fish with a lot said when he grabbed the bag for the first time this yr was well it's lighter!. it seems to me that if you think back to all the trips you take fishing you only end up using 1 to 3 rods. so i based my tackle bag on that.
i have a falcon terminal tackle plastic container for all terminal tackle. then i have about 3 Plano boxes one for cranks and top water, one for jigs & trailers and the 3rd is for drop shot baits ,shakey head & senkos.i only carry about 4 SB and 2 buzzbaits on me that's all I'll need if i use them and i keep them in a zip lock bag. then i have some other zip lock bags with some plastics(brush hogs, worms & some flipping plastics, and swimbaits(soft)). i keep only a few colors that i need  and take a couple odd ball colors too. this keeps down the amount of plastics that i will bring(lol). the main thing is buy a smaller bag and you can't fit all the stuff you would w/bigger bag. (lol).
now if i had a boat all bets would be off(lol)
