2011 April 23 Summit

cold, cold day on the water yet again.  Water temps were 47°F - 49°F and wind was 'gently blowing' out of the NNW at about 20mph.

Bites were light...but 'solid'...they'd suck up the bait and then just move off...fish were caught on crankbaits, jig/chunk, spinnerbaits almost all of them off of rocked (riprap) areas.

they really are wanting to get 'underway'...but the cold fronts keep ripping through and holding them back...

Do you think they are on the rocks for the extra warmth?

mike, I'm guessing it has to do with several factors:
1.  some warmth...
2.  Riprapped areas (jetties, damface) are also classic 45° angle banks with oftentimes 6-15 foot depths just nearby.  so close access to deeper water...
3.  crappie are moving in/staging on these things to spawn as well...and the crayfish (black as night this time of year) are always 'there/around'...

I'm thinking #2/#3 probably primary in location...

I didn't try creek channel lips...but I'm betting that I could have found them there too...which leads me back to the point of 'close access to deeper water'...
