I have a question for those here that pour their own jigs with fiber weed guards.

Previously I poured my jigs with the weedguard in the mould and then just painted the jig head with nail polish or other brush applied paint. I have since bought some powder paint for jigs and now I want to pour the jigs without the fiber weedguard, then apply the powder paint using a toaster oven and then glue the fiber weedguard in after painting. I tried heating a jighead in the toaster with the weedguard already moulded in and it started to melt in the oven.

My question is, how do you block the weedguard cavity in the jig mould before pouring the lead so that the hole remains for gluing??

If it's a Do-It mold, use their base hole pins: http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/do-it-mold-parts/410529.aspx

You can also buy fiberguard tubing that slips over the molded-in weedguards to prevent melting: http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/weedguards-fiberguards/025724027119.aspx

Never done any of this before but sounds like a nail would work but not sure how hard it would be to get out afterwards. A screw would work and u can just back it out with a screwdiver. Like I said I have never done anyof this before but sound like it would work to me?!?

Thanks tsmith. I like the look of those tubes as I do prefer to mould the weedguard in during pouring the lead.

JM, your idea also sounds good  :-*

Instead of  a toaster oven I use a butane torch with the heat guard over the weedguard. I heat the lead until hot then immediatly remove the heat guard and dip into powder coat. The whole process takes only seconds.
