Skeet Reese on treble hooks?

I read an article from skeet reese where he says that round bend trebles are better then ewg trebles for all cranks when there not inhaling the lure, I can kinda see why since the points stick out a little more. No will round bend trebles get snagged on wood/structure easier then ewg?

I think the ewg's hurt the action of the bait , especially a flat sided one . I've always used the round bend gammy's .

Okay thanks Now is the KVD elite trebles considered round or ewg?

From what I have gathered they are a wide gap hook...I havent really noticed wide gap trebles hurting the action on hard baits, but I guess it could happen on some...Wish I was rich so I could have sets of both cuz thats a lot of hook changin if that's true!!!!! lol

Nothing I hate more is changing out trebles!!

I don't have a scale that would prove it, but I would bet the EWG'S weigh more. I do know that any time I order a custom crankbait if they come with hooks it's always a round bend. I've been happy with gammy's but the Daiichi death traps may be the sharpest hook I've ever seen, they are a thin wire round bend and they will flat hurt you if your not careful with the split ring pliers . I heard a local guide say he will not allow clients to swing fish in the boat anymore since he started using them on jerkbaits.

If you have EWG Hooks on your Lure and you think the fish are lite hitting just take your Needle Nose and just bend the point so its straight like a round bend its easy I do it all the time as for weight a EWG weighs the same as a Round bend if there made from the same gauge wire

I found a article on crankbait central by David Ryan (davescustombaits) . He doesn't recomend EWG's on several of his baits because of the weight .He doesn"t say why they weigh more, the wire size seems reasonable.He does make a great crankbait. I think I'll stick to the round bends.

If the hooks that came on the lure are short shanks Then yes the EWG may weight a little more But your only talking about 2 hooks that only weight maybe .001gram more But if your using Reg Gam Round the Gam EWG weight the same The Main reason to run short Shank round is you can run a larger size because the hooks want get snagged together like EWG will if you go larger size Most of the higher priced lures use short shank hooks Gam does make a short Shank round That i do use sometimes but they will get snagged up on stumps much easier then the EWG hooks

The only time I see an avantage of one over the other is if fish are slapping the bait you MIGHT snag an extra fish during a tourney day. I use both and as long as you are using Quality hooks I don't think the average angler will see a difference in hookups. The place where the EWG such as the KVD elite triple grips shine is they are harder for a fish to throw.

One other big reason i like the Gamakatsu EWG treble Hooks i can get them for only $3.99 a pack where the Round are anywhere from $5.99-$6.97 a pack depending on where you buy I have seen some tackle shop that are right on the lake charging $12-$15 a pack plus i do change them a lot they do get dull from hitting rocks and such so the $$ can add up if your changing out 30-40 lures in a month when your doing some heavy fishing sometimes everyday if fishing in rocks

I like the KVD EWG treble hooks especially for lipless baits. I can up size the hooks and not have to worry about them getting tangled. I use a size 2 on 1/2 oz baits and a size 1 on 3/4 oz baits. That being said, if I am fishing for fun I leave the stock hooks on the baits. I use the EWG's on tournament days. The hooks are harder to throw and I can upsize which I believe catches me more fish.
