Where are good lakes to fish in N.W Ohio

I am fairly new to the fishing world and I am trying to gain experience.  Last summer I fished most of the reservoirs around me but no luck.  I looked at the ODNR website and their reports said that the reservoirs I was fishing really don't have the population that they once had.  I fished, Delta, Swanton and Wauseon.  I also tried Defiance Reservoir but it was just built in 07 and the fish and I was told the fish are still not mature enough.  So my question is were are the best lakes in N.W Ohio to Largemouth fish?  I don't have a boat so I do all my fishing from the shore.  Also I do fish the Maumee River and Lake Erie from time to time since I am from Toledo.
