Saw some pro fisher men talk about how good lift assist was. Have any of you tried, was it worth the big bucks. Seems like a good engineer would come up with a kit to put one on any trolling motor.

Lift assist is great, but certainly is not something you need.  What I think folks don't mention, is not the strain on your back that is helpful, but the strain on the trolling motor cord.  Because there is less strain on the TM cord everytime you pull it out of the water, there is less chance that it will break.  That in itself I think is worth it.  Nothing worse than that darn TM cord breaking in the middle of a tourney and you waste good fishing time...

I just replaced my minn kota 70 sc with a 80lb fortrex with the lift asssist, I will never go back. It helps lifting and lowering. You can drop the motor and it slowly enters the water and locks in. Best upgrade I have made

I put a fortrex on this summer and it is well worth the money.  I love it that you break it over the top, let go, and it eases it self into the water.  A must for us old geezers.

I have been told that if you have a maxxum that doesnt have the lift assist you can take it to a minn kota dealer and they can add it....
