DelaWhere?

If there are any experienced anglers in the area that wouldn't mind showing an amateur like myself a few things, it would be greatly appreciated.  I am located in Dover, DE.  I have my own boat and go fishing several times a week but I would love to learn some new techniques and hear some good advice from someone who has been doing this far longer than myself!

Thanks,
Michael

I know someone up there is in the Air Force and is at Dover, and he doesnt have a boat or etc and is new to the area and would more than likely like to go with you???

Ok, I am definitely interested.  Is this individual a fairly experienced angler?  I usually just go out on my boat with a buddy of mine but like I said above, we are beginners when it comes to bass fishing.  We employ basic techniques and mostly fish with plastics but would like some advanced know how when it comes to spinners, crankbaits, jigs, etc.

Let me know....

Thanks,
Michael

What specifically, would you like to learn about? I may be willing to help. Been a round a long time and don't mind helping out others. Can you get you started, but now is a tough time with the heat and all...

You fishing ponds, or looking to venture to bigger water like the nanticoke river and such? Lots of great opportunities around, depending on where you want to get started.

check out my club's site and our tournament reports. Lots of info there...

In short, you cannot go wrong with a jig or any soft plastic texas-rigged, shallow crankbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, worms.

Great crankbaits to get started with are the Mann's 1-minus. Slow roll them over wood and through pads. I personallty use the Lucky Craft RC's and now the Strike King KVD's, all are equally effective.

Everyone thriows the senkos around here, and some colors do better than others, but that remains a personal choice, and not always free information.  :)

if you really want to get on some good fish, the Berkley Power worms are killer in the 7-inch Blue Fleck!

Thanks for responding!  I mainly fish lakes/ponds in the area (Kent County).  They are fairly shallow as you probably already know.  I have a buddy that I usually go fishing with all the time and we do catch fish, it's just everything we catch basically is on a plastic (senko).  I have tried some cranks (all I have at the moment are some rapala's) and some spinner baits (strike king) but really have not had the kind of luck like we do with the plastics.

I know for a fact that we have crappy equipment.  We are planning on taking a trip to BPS in a few weeks to "upgrade".  But I also know that some of it has to do with technique as well (at least that is what I am thinking).  I just wanted to talk to some one or see someone as far as pole position and technique for working cranks, spinners, etc?  I also wouldn't mind discussing with an experienced angler about equipment so we have some good ideas when we finally do take our trip to get the new rod/reel combo's.

Thanks for the ideas on cranks and what to buy, I really appreciate it.  While that is helpful for sure, I really would like some technique advice if possible...sorry to bug people.  I am beginning to think that this is a crazy request...LOL

I wouldn't say we are beginning anglers (we have been fishing all of our lives) in a sense that we have never picked up poles before.  Its just that we are now focused on bass fishing only as opposed to your typical "throw some live bait on the pole and cast in the water" routine.

I live locally in the area (south of Dover).  Would be willing to meet up somewhere if possible?

Thanks,
Michael

Yes he is experienced.  He is 20 years old but bass fished since he was about 5 and used a baitcast since he was 8.  He doesn't have all his gear up there with him but could prolly get part of it shipped up there or etc or buy some new stuff.  He fishes everythnig from plastics to jigs to crankbaits and etc.  He is new to the area and works at Dover AFB, how far from there are you?

I haven't forgotten about you. Been on vacation and things are picking up now with the schools and all. After all this flooding subsides, we will get together...

Just checking in with you to see if things have slowed down enough on your end to do some fishing:)
