I hung one on a crankbait a few years ago that was at least 15 lbs. It came out of the water like a rocket as soon as I set the hook. Ran straight past the boat , jumped again and kept going. I don't know where I hooked him but i have never seen one do that before or since.
I don't mind not knowing all the answers, but I keep forgeting the danged questions.

Broskee

That is actually a freshwater drum or also known around here as a "gaspergou" or "gaspergoo". You must have been fishing on the river because I catch them quite often when I am fishing along the rocks. They are sure fun to catch but will make you think you have a big bass on sometimes especially during a tournament.

JMGullo

Y'all should have seen it!!!!! I was fishing with him and when he set the hook both of us went to scrambling for the net. Lol when it got sideways the first time our mouths dropped. It it would have broke off then it would been a heck of a fishing story

Man it was awesome I said to Gullo oh yea it's a big one!!!!! He was already at the front of the boat ready to get that sucker. I mean I was so excited that it might be a massive largemouth only to find out that it was a buffalo. Later I was told that I could have sold that sucker at the local fish market lol.

I caught one several years ago right at daylight on a black worm. When I finally got him up to see him underwater, I told my dad to get the net I had a world record. When the mouth popped up, I knew it was a goo!!! Landed him and he weighed 16 1/2 lbs. Plenty of excitement, but no world record!!!

Thanks for sharing the story.

When you hook into one you think you got a record for sure.
They do fight good.

I've caught them many times fishing the Mississippi River and the Oxbows.

They aren't too bad to eat either.

My buddy and I fish for drum on the ohio river.  Here is a small one caught on a Flitterbait.

Broskee

pretty nice one, so I am guessing you guys eat them too!

When I was a kid I used to catch them and collect the stones that are in their head.  They look pretty neat.

I work on a tug boat on the Ohio river what lock is that behind you???

Nickk

I caught one on the Mississippi in a tournament, hit a crank along some rip-rap.  I thought I had the bass of a lifetime.

I caught one this summer on a tubebait in Lake Michigan, they fight great!

Lipripper

Your right they are fun to catch and can be caught in just about every state. Here's one I caught up here in the Illinois river fishing for Catfish.
