Different Kinds of Panfish in Northwest Louisiana

what other kinds of panfish are in this area other than crappie and the usual bream. i have read about goggle eye, white bass, and warmouth bass. where and how do you catch each of these types of panfish. i am mainly just a bass fisher.

Warmouth and goggle eye are the same species. Dorcheat Bayou used to be full of them! They hit like a frieght train lo! They are also in most lakes and have caught a few while bass fishing. White bass are also in the lakes but are plentiful in the Sabine River. Small cranks are a good choice in the Spring before the spawn.

how do you catch big goggle eye and big shellcracker. what are some techniques that can be used.

Depends on the location.

Lakes:

Bream/panfish/sunfish (can include 4-6 types of sunfish including shellcracker, redear, spotted, bluegill, etc)
Crappie/perch (if they are stocked)
Warmouth (aka goggle eye)

Larger fish:
Largemouth Bass
Carp (normal brownish and light green triploid carp)
various catfish, usually Channel cats and yellow/bullhead cats

Rivers/streams:
all the above plus:
Striped Bass
Sunshine bass
White bass
chain pickerel/pike
Blue Tilapia
Bowfin
Gar
and a few other fish that travel to and from fresh and saltwater
