Just heard the sad news
http://www.flwoutdoors.com/fishing-articles/151636/angler-dies-in-boat-accident-at-bfl-regional/
prayers go out and everyone be careful out there.

Sad news indeed.  He leaves a young wife and two kids.  Should be a sobering reminder to all boaters.  You are responsible for your safety and that of your co-angler.  Wonder how many pay attention of speed limits on our lakes?

Is this the accident when the guy was running 60 mph in dense fog right after take off and hit someone?  If so, everybody remember that being the first to a spot isn't worth a life or a boat for that matter.  Be careful.  It can happen to anyone...

This is the accident where 2 boats were going head on. Both swerved -- one to his right and one to his left(!). After several attempts by both boaters to avoid the collision, the boat that initially turned right made a sharp turn to his right. And the other guy made a sharp turn to his left(!). The non-boater riding in the boat that turned right was killed. His name was Freddy McCrory. He left a wife and 2 daughters (3 & 9 year old) at home. He had no life insurance and was self-employed. FLW is collecting money to give to Freddy's family at the site listed in the first post.

What time of day was it?  I don't see how this could've happened with good visibility because they would have seen each other way before they would need to try to avoid eachother.

But, you never know.  My prayers are with his family.  Everyone be careful out there!!

It was at 7:13am if I remember right.

I am very sorry for Freddy and for his family; however, having a wife and two young children and no life insurance
is poor planning on his part.  No one expects to be killed at a young age, we think we are invincible.  The cost of
a small policy at that age is less than a two packs of cigarettes a week.

B.A.S.S. has an accidential death policy for it's members...does F.L.W.?  I would also suspect the boater on
both sides had liability insurance in order to participate in the tournament.  His wife and kids will probably come out
ok financially but that doesn't replace the loss of a husband and father.

It happened after safe light, One boater did what he was supposed to and went to the right and the other went left,  and ran right over the passenger seat  where Freddy was sitting.  These things happen on occasion. There was NO adverse weather conditions on the lake according to the investigating officers.   Just a Boater that made a mistake.  That whole story about the dense fog was made up rumor.

That's too sad.  I still don't see how it happened.  But, I guess a lot of things are like that in life.  I'm picturing a long straight-away with miles of visibility, so I guess that's why I don't see it.  I was saying that may have seen each other from hundreds of yards off.

Don't take me the wrong way on this, but:  It's fortunate that only one life was taken.  With at least 4 people in 2 boats (I'm just guessing it was 2 per boat), at most likely high speeds, all four could have easily been killed either by the impact of the collision or a boat flipping.  It's hard to think about...

The one in the fog I heard about was a man took of from initial take-off in dense fog.  The accident took place within a few minutes of the start and the man was going around 60 mph in the fog early in the morning following his GPS and not paying attention to anything in front of him when he hit an older man in a jon boat crossing the river channel.  The older man died.  This may or may not be the one you're telling me was made up.  I'll try to dig up the article, but I want to say it was on the Bassmaster website, but I could be mixing that up with the drama on Falcon.

Be safe

It was origainally reported that there were 2 accidents on barkley that morning, But the report about the johnboat was false.  I still don't think anyone knows for sure what happened with the 2 tourney boats.  The eyewitnesses said that the one boat veered sharply left at the last minute, but no one has said why.  :-\
