I just bought structure scan and i'm getting ready to install in the next few days. My biggest problem is deciding where to mount the structurescan transducer.

I'm planning to mount it somewhere on the step using the bracket. My current plan is about 5 inches to the right and 3 or 4 inches above my normal skimmer transducer.  Is this an ok position? I'm worried about the skimmer blocking the structurescan beam since it would be below it.

Thanks!

Do you have a jackplate? A lot of folks are mounting them right under the plate with good results.

What kind of boat? Jackplate?  I don't think I would mount above the skimmer cause it will block the signal. I have plate and mounted mine dead center of transom a few inches below the lowest point of the jackplate.

Boat is a 1999 Steeter ZX 202c. It does have a jackplate.  It's an older detwiler.  It's not long enough to mount it inside so i'd have to mount the bracket on the outside of the jackplate and i was scared it would be too close to the motor.

Edit: Went a took a pic of plate. Would this be a suitable location?

Hard for me to tell from pic whether you could mount to jackplate without interference or beam kickback.  FC has it right above.  If you mount it directly to transom like he says, you won't have any problems.  LSS ducers can be mounted using the adjustable bracket to the underside of jackplates that have the bottom splash or support plate (like Bob's plates) - this works great without putting additional holes in transom.  Bottom line, the ducer must be at least an inch lower than anything else or you will get some kickback.

Ok, I've looked at it some more and I think i've got a spot that will work.

I can't mount it on the transom behind the plate because the plate comes too low in it's normal position. (in my pic i've got it raised all the way.)

As you can see in the pic there is a 1in. thick plate running across the bottom of the plate. I think the transducer would not extend enough below the plate if I mount it outside.

Now what i'm thinking of is mounting it on the plate that runs across the bottom. This would make it the lowest point on the plate, close to 1 ft. from the lower unit at lowest trim, and a little over a foot from the skimmer.  I don't see any glaring reason why this shouldn't work?  I'll probably have a heck of a time drilling through a 1in. aluminum plate though   ~sweat.

New location idea. Remember plate is in highest position.

Also keep in mind that the ducer needs the clear the spoonsons (sp?) on the sides.

I took some ribbon and taped it to the lowest points across the back and placed my ducer according to that. Disregard where the ducer is at as i have installed a jackplate since then and moved it.

With the jackplate installed, i moved it to the center of transom and below the jackplate.

It will clear the sponsons by a couple inches with the jack plate in it's normal position.

I'm having work done on the trailer right now so I haven't got to install it yet.  I'll probably install it this weekend and update this after I test it.

Thanks for the help.

With the last picture you show holding it to the jp, with it mounted there will it be moving up and down with the jp as you adjust it?

kyle31

Yes. There's nowhere on the jackplate to mount it where it won't move with the plate.

I set the plate and leave it for the most part.

I tested it out today and everything works great.    ;D

Thanks for the help.
