Just read this in a LA sporting mag and thought I'd pass it on.

We "night angers" all know how frustrating it can be to ensure we have our lights on as required and to manage our cranking battery to make sure there is enough juice to power the live wells all night and still crank once it's time to head in.  Adding running lights will out on the water can take it's toll on the limited amount of battery life we have.  Sooooooo this guy replaced his stern light with a solar powered patio light, lets him keep safe, follow the rules to avoid a ticket and is on less thing running off the battery to worry about.  ~c~

If you could find one small enough and with some minor adjustments you could get this to work on the bow light as well. Although most states don't require it on when just sitting.

It's probably better to just install an approved LED stern light like the ones from Seasense. LED lights draw very minimal current, but are much more visible (and more durable) than patio lights. The Seasense LED lights only cost about $35 and can be seen up to 2 nautical miles away. Better to spend a little more and be safe than to save money and end up injured or worse. Boating after dark can be hazardous even with the proper equipment. If you're really broke, you can get something like the Innovative Lighting battery navigation light -- runs on 4 AA batteries and costs about $17.

Well, that last post was #666 for me, so I'll make one more to say that two neighbors on my street have solar patio lights and solar walkway lights that they got in the past year. Most of them no longer work. I looked at some in the store and wasn't impressed with the quality (I thought about getting some too).

I sure don't think it would be a good idea to run with them,,,,, but while night fishing around docks here in our area you can still get a ticket if you don't have a stern light on.  One shouldn't have to worry about other boaters running up on you in 2/3 foot of water while you are sitting next to a dock but that is the law.  Just thought this would be an easy fix
