There is a boat dealer here in town, and I called them to price a trim motor for me.  After a few minutes of looking it up they quoted me $615 bucks for this thing.  I got the part # from them, and in about 2 minutes of google searching, I found the same part for $149.85.  The difference is one is made by yamaha, and the other is made by a different company.  Needless to say, I am going to go the $150 route. Is there really $465 difference in the two?

The dealer is marking it WAY up also! How much is the genuine Yamaha part online?

Did their quote include install labor?

That's a huge difference. There is mark up like buying a part a chevy or going to autozone but that's alot!!!

Their quote was for the part only. I found the one they quoted me online on the Yamaha website.

OEM parts are moe expensive but that seems way high. You might research the one you found and make sure it's not so low? Meaning that it truly is the correct one. Pump pressure, trim travel, tilt travel, fluid requirements? Something just doesn't seem right 500 is a lot of difference  :surrender:

i've seen Yamaha trim motors list from anywhere between $400 and $1100. some there are no aftermarket for. if you go to the dealer you can expect to pay list price for factory parts. if they were charging list for a yamaha part made by yamaha I see no foul.

Why list? Just because they can? That is ridiculous!

I didn't say there was a foul. Just asked what's the $465 difference.

there really isn't a difference. some itemes however have no available aftermarket. sometimes I find the aftermarket parts to be of better quality. I know sierra has a much better warranty than most factory parts also. the reason dealers don't want to sell you aftermarket is that they have factory parts shoved down their throats and if they don't sell a certain number they can have the line yanked out from under them.
