Playing off of another thread in here for newer guys or people that just have trouble freeing their snagged baits.....

Once you try moving the boat, and the bow and arrow, you might still be stuck......  For shallow water, move your boat over to directly over the snag, and "reel down" to your lure.  The lure will now be right at the tip of your rod (picture it out of the water just like your reeled the bait up to your rod tip).  You should be able to wiggle or push with your rod tip to knock/ hit your lure free from the snag.

Most of us, however, do not carry 20 feet long rods..... So, how do you free those lures that are way down deep, and just too expensive to break off.  You could go out and buy a lure retriever, find instructions on the net to make one, (you'll probably have to buy stuff here too, and it may not be too easy), or you could just use a simple homemade solution.  Most of us have a lot of old junk laying around, myself included, and this is a way to put it to use.

Go out in the garage and find an old spark plug, or something else that is small and heavy.  Clean the plug or other object very well with Dawn, or a similar grease cutting detergent to cleanse the plug of any pollutants. ( remember this may be used in your favorite lake)  Once clean, find a paper clip or similar thin wire object that is readily available around the average household. Bend the paper clip straight, and insert it into any "hole" or opening in the object you have chosen.  The plug will have a small hole near the end which is convenient to use.  Once the clip is pushed through the hole, simply rebend it to lock the spark plug in place. You now have your finished lure retriever.  Unbend the clip to attach the retriever to your line, and then make sure the retriever is securely attached.  Once the boat is over the lure, drop your retriever down there and do the hokey pokey, or something similar with lots of shakng all about. (JK) You will soon feel that lure come off of the snag and you will be one happy camper.

Potential savings= it's up to you
Total Time to make= 5 minutes
Total Cost= probably 0

My father taught me this many years ago, great tip :toot: Bonus is if it didn't work your not out anything ~sweat Very rarely did I not see it free a bait, had to move the boat around sometimes but usually got it back :-*

I have been doing that for awhile. I couldn't beleive it would actually work, but it does. I use a snap to attach the plug to the line.
I don't mind not knowing all the answers, but I keep forgeting the danged questions.
