i recently found out i am going to be staying right close to the upper potomac river right near williamsport and close to hagerstown.  anyone have any info about where is good and how i can get on some fish.  i have a canoe with a moter that i might be bringing but im not sure if i am or not yet.  anyone know a good place to launch a canoe or even fish from foot around that way?

I fish further south (edwards ferry and whites ferry) from where you will be. I'm sure that there are some good launch ramps up your way though. Here's a link to a good weekly fishing report that should help you out: http://www.penrodsguides.com/fishingreport.htm

The National Park Service has a park map that lists access points for the river. A search on the web for C&O canal parks gets some pretty detailed info for different float trips.

The canoe would be an excellent choice but I'm not so sure about the motor. Choose wisely and you can bike from launch to takeout with little effort.

Fish down from Dam 4 and Dam 5.  Tons of smallies and some Tigers and Walleyes mixed in.  If you like muskies go about half a mile downstream from Dam 5.
