Save Your Butt!

I have a couple of nice new rods that have all-cork handles. Many times when I am out fishing and change lures or hooks, I have the butt end of the rod on the ground (whatever type of terrain that ground may be) and have already noticed some rubbing and chipping of the cork on the end of the pole.

I went to Lowes and bought some 1 1/8" rubber chair tips (Lowes, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc., have other sizes depending on the size of your cork grips) and slid them on the butt end of the cork rod handles.

Easy to install on new or used poles, they don't accidently slide off or move due to the firm friction fit of the cork and rubber. However, they can be easily removed later on if so desired with a little warm soapy water placed between the rubber chair tip and the cork grip, followed by a gentle twist of the chair tip.

I don't notice the minor additional weight of the rubber chair tip, get a firmer connection between the ground and pole when changing lures and hooks, and the butt end of my rod's cork handle is protected.

The chair tips also come in a huge assortment of colors ranging from black to white to black to white ;-)

That's a good tip.  ~c~ I bet you could take it a step further and put some steel washers in the end to make the rig balance perfectly.

Great tip, thanks for posting.
You could also add somw weight into the chair tips to help balance the rod.
