Well i've been out there 3 times in the last 2 weeks.  I'm gettin ready for the Weekend series.  Of course im new to the lake, but i've found it some what difficult to find any concentration of fish.  it's been real spotty at best. most of my bites have been on jigs and heavy shakyheads in deep water.  Coming from Georgia, deep is 10 ft.  so i've been trying to adapt to that clear deep stuff!! i love the grass here too.  and with the recent spike in temp i expect some movement out of those fish on the grass lines.

My best advice i suppose, and take it for what its worth.  is to stay on the deep trash and any grass edges that taper off on points and humps.  i havent really had much luck on the shear drops out of the weeds.  With the temp increase a jerk bait and medium cranks just to tick the tops of the grass will work.  good luck!!

Camp there every summer, but the fish kick my rear.  Sorry I wish I could help.  I can tell you how not to catch them in June/July.

Well as you have probably seen Duke Gunnell and Brandon Rhoden finished 1,2 on Ouachita this sat.  I guess that was expected.  I had what i thought was a productive Friday for practice.  I was even off the water at noon thinking i had a solid plan.

i didnt throw at any trash piles since i figured i had enough to rotate through.  During practice my partner wanted to stick a couple fish just to do it, so we went near an area that i planned on putting alot of time into.  well i ended up just chucking a shaky head at a bank with grass and timber on it.  not thinking i was gonna have to many things happen.  wel in about 20 cast i stuck 1 solid keeper then shook 2 more off.  literally had to shake them off they wouldnt let go.  in fact they they took the dang worm off!!  Bass tax i guess.  anyway, that was a bonus.  i thought i could show up and get a couple bites.

Well t-day shows up and my partner and i head to the first stop.  a trash pile in about 30 ft.  we chucked jigs at it for about 15 min. when i drifted past the key area and started up the high spot.  My partner, Rob Russow, buckles down and hammers his first keeper on a fball jig.  so needless to say i thought things started off well.  i mean surely we can head to my main area and then get a couple bites, and a few more in the trash!!  Well that was the only fish we caught there.  so we headed off to my main are and started where i shook off the previous days fish.  to make a somewhat long story short, plus my carpal tunnel is flaring up as i read this, or is it my temper?!?  we got no bites at all....nada.

Keeping a cool head about 11 we started off to work the trash piles.  it had been about 4 hrs since any bite was felt.  we hit trash after trash, and ran all over the lake to no avail.  finally we head to a spot by the ramp.  i found this area on a foggy day where we couldnt see 5 ft in front of the boat and it was a good thing.  not long after we pulled up a little after 2 i stuck my first fish of the day and it was a keeper.  so pressure off, and points in my pocket, we kept fishing.  i turned the boat around and hit that spot again this time sticking a 12.5 in. fish.  so we stayed there and kept pounding the area.  with about 10 min left Rob pauses his speech, bird dogs a little and sticks about a 2.5lb spot!  well of course time expires with no other bites but was a bright spot in a long day.

All in all it was a learning experience for sure.  Rob, who was absolutely the best co-angler to have, very respectful and knows whats up out there, finished a respectable 16th on a tough day. As a non boater for 10 years myself, you try and learn something from the boater.  well i dont think Rob learned much!!  Well i ended up with a humble 30 something finish!!  i'll take it this time.  but im not gonna have a repeat of that on Dardanelle....i hope!!

It was a tough day for me, my boater didnt have any game plan except fishing for spots on bluffs all day.  I hate fishing history but at 11o'clock,not catching a fish or so much as a bite, I asked if we could make a couple runs to some places I think that we could catch some fish. Ive not been on the water in two weeks due to blowing up my motor. Thank GOD that he was willing.  I ended up with a limit + 3 pickeral and finished 9th.  My boater didnt catch a single fish.  I have BFL coming up on the 20th on Ouachita again.  Im hoping my motor gets repaired before then so i can get a little TOW before this tourney.
