What fish finder/GPS mounts are you guys using.  I need one with a small foot print for my HDS7, where I had my old Eagel mounted beside he console.

Stan

Just use a small RAM mount and you should be good to go.

I concur, I used a small RAM mount for my HDS-5 at the bow.  They say what approx size they are best used for.

calincalif50

thx I'll look at them at BPS.  Any places local you can buy from?

TomG

Ordered mine from Bass Pro, but I know Tacklewarehouse keeps adding to their marine section.  They carry Lowrance now so they might have the RAM mounts...........check them out first, you would get it quicker.

If you got with the Ram mount I think they make a short arm version with the larger ball.  I also think you can go to their website and search by unit.  I have a 1" ball unit on my Lowrance X135 up front.  Great product.

COULDN'T FIND ANY FROM TW, BUT KNOW BPS HAS SOME.

calincalif50

TOM,
If needed can I pick your brain on set up and all with my HDS 7 after its running

TomG

Cal,

Sure thing.  But all I can really tell you is that when I first got it I tried cranking up the sensitivity and some other settings but ended up going back to the auto settings.  The only thing I really changed was the color of the background the pallette setting.  Also for the sonar part make sure you zoom in to 2x the normal and more if needed, that was the key for me.  The mapping has great graphics and the sonar is outstanding!

Do you have the Navionics chip?  I upgrade my Lake insight to the navionics platinum.  Can't wait to get it on the lake to play with it.  could end up doing more playing than fishing  lo

TomG

Yea,

When I purchased mine I bought the cheaper one with the basic map because I had read that the insight map wasn't worth a darn.  Then I ordered the most expensive Navionics chip for it.......not sure if it 's the platinum or if there was one above that.  But yea the Navionics chips are the way to go.

I've read the manual but still have figured out how to get the gps to show my current location.  Is there a setting/button you have to push/set to get it to default to current location.  It boots up then only shows the mid west

Stan

Have you initialized it yet?
Stan

TomG

It's probably not getting a signal from the satellite.  When my boat is in the garage it normally doesn't pick up my location.  When you are outside you just turn it on and it should pick up a signal.  I didn't have to do anything to mine to get it to work.  When the map comes up you can scroll over the lakes  you want and checkout how the navionics chip looks!

calincalif50

GUESS I'M GOING TO HAVE TO DO SOME MORE READING.  I WISH THERE WAS A EMMULATOR FOR IT

skeeterchris

I bought my Ram mount off of ram-mount.com. Short arm big ball. Yea the stuff loaded on the Lowrance is not worth a darn. You will have to get the chip.

calincalif50

Ordered my ram mount, said it was in stock, got an email yesterday to say its on back order now and could be as long as 4-6 weeks, may have to do something temp until it comes in if it takes that long

skeeterchris

did you check out ram-mount.com they have several different types. Just a thought

calincalif50

I looked at that site, but it runs condiderably more thatn the $75 i payed for, i'll wait, and do something temp

calincalif50

mount has finally shipped, should arrive the house by this friday.  That gives me Saturday to get it installed and such.
