OK - picked up a used bass-boat recently and want to find a navigation / map / GPS topo device that will serve me well and not break the bank.  I currently use a TomTom daily on the road and want something simple / usable and flexible with:

Full GPS
Temp / Depth
Lake maps

I would love everyone's input as I want to keep this simple and yet make it usable and future flexible...

Lowrance's HD5 is a good unit but lacks the future flexibility you talk about. It comes preloaded with a lot of the countries lakes but not all. The HDS5 allows you to use a removable storage device and you can continually update as needed or want to. However the break the bank part of your post is difficult, to get all the qualities your looking for your going to have to spend a few bucks. I have the HDS5 and other than wanting the 7 for a bigger screen I love it.

Just starting to consider such a device, but not at all committed or concerned yet.  I am what many would call tech savvy and understand technology does not come cheap these days.  IF I could get a device or software to run on a Windows mobile device I would consider that as well, but I doubt that world and the fishing world collide very often!

I've got Lowrance HDS8 on console and HDS 5 on the bow.
